I can only compare our life in Southern California to our life in Southern Spain, so not really US vs Spain on a whole.... anyways, it's WAYYYYYYYY cheaper. Our rent is fucking ridiculous. We are paying 750 euros (~850 dollars) for a 4 bedroom amazing amazing house on a beautiful giant property, like 3 acres. No neighbors, near an amazing town. Pool and everything. I think the house is like 1,600 sq.ft. We rent a car for 300 euros all included. You should see what we buy at the grocery store for 20 euros. It's seriously unbelievable. Also, as Mr.Green said, the food is of much better quality. For one they don't use High Frutose Corn syrup at all.... I think it's banned in Europe. Fresh fruit and veg, for super cheap. QUality meats, local again.

And how about health insurance. We were paying $2,800 a month (we had good insurance) in the states. And when we had our baby we got a bill for like $16,000. Here, we have good insurance, with dental, for the whole family for 1,900 euros a YEAR! And we don't pay to see doctors at all, no copay. Pills are cheap as all get out. 600 mg ibuprofen at the pharmacy is like 2 euros for a pack of 60. My wife got a medicine for her head that in the states was 475 $ for the generic. Here she got the name brand, galaxo smith cline for 11 euros.... and that was double the dose of the ones in the US.

We are paying 150 euros a month for pre school for the little girl. That includes lunch each day.

Not sure what else there is. Shit is cheap.

Except for the things that are expensive.... they are fucking expensive. Electronics for example. Some other seemingly random things are also super expensive. It's a trip. For the most part things are much cheaper, and when they aren't they are way more expensive.

Gas is expensive. Electricity is expensive. Water for the house is expensive. So no one grows indoors, haha. And hardly anyone (compared to the US) drives. It's great for me as I drive a lot... no one on the roads. I love it.

I love love love living here. Absolutely crushed I have to move back later this year. :(
H! I didn't know we had a Spanish thread here.

Near Alicante, living here for about 6 years now. I can only confirm the cheap living here, and ESPECIALLY what you get on decent groceries for €20, it's ridiculous. If I get groceries for €20, I need a trolley or two to even carry all the stuff. This includes beer, cat food, our food etc.
Wife drinks the cheap EMD Bräu beer, half a liter can is €0.38 :)
Also, with the Ibuprofen for €2 and especially some meds my wife (US American) is taking, she is taking Paroxetina (Paxil) for anxiety etc. which was a fortune in the states, here it's like €5 for a pack or so.

Now, a little bad news, and no I don't want to scare anyone.

The MJ law here and especially in regards to growing here is VERY vague. We had been in the belief that possession AND growing, AS LONG AS IT IS FOR PERSONAL USE, is "legal" respective decriminalized.

We were growing a ridiculous low number of plants in a greenhouse, and several weeks ago WE HAD A VISIT FROM THE GUARDIA CIVIL.

A "bad neighbor" must have complained "about the smell" (which is ridiculous since the plants were not even in flowering).

Making a very, VERY long story short:

They took all the plants and basically the gist is that growing IS NOT LEGAL here by a long-shot.

When they bust you, for whatever reason, it's a matter of whether the guardia civil and then later a judge sees it's really only for private use or not. In out case, we had 7 plants and they were HUGE, and we were just repeatedly told "too many".

While they were here taking the plants, they were also supposed to take everything else I used for growing, my precious very expensive grow lights etc. and basically all equipment.

BUT...we we were very fortunate that we had the impression that while they were here they saw how ridiculous the entire thing is, so at some moment they just left w/ the plants and didn't care about anything else.

Next day we had an appt at the guardia civil office (which was a joke, we were at that bar drinking beer while waiting, with THE GUYS WHO BUSTED US right next table, drinking as well in the same bar...)..then taking statements etc. They had a lawyer and interpreter etc.

The gist is that the entire case is LIKELY and hopefully be thrown out and doesn't even go before a judge, but of course we still don't know yet. But this is what the lawyer told us. It is just an effing waste of time and tax money, to be honest.

Right now, before we know more, of course we're very hesitant to grow any MJ, right now I am only growing hot peppers.

Just know that in the eventuality that someone is getting busted, it is VERY important that you can make a credible impression that it's for your own, private use...you're the one smoking up, you take it for anxiety, you are a habitual stoner etc., you have to tell this the cops. There is no "allowed" number of plants, someone could have 2 plants for private use or 100, and someone else could have 2 plants but for selling.

"Decriminalized" is such a vague term, it means simply that in the eventuality someone gets busted for growing, the judge or whatever is LIKELY dropping the case when it's evident its only for private use...and it's often on a "case by case" basis, in other words, it depends whether the cops like you or not.

Needless to say we were very shocked when the guardia civil rang, because our grow is not visible and we had been convinced you can grow a few plants without a problem.

** As for the rest, possession and smoking *IS* legal, as long as you smoke in your own home. But here too I think it depends on the mood of the cops/judge.

The irony: Literally EVERYONE smokes-up here, in our own apartment complex even. So we are baffled what neighbor would have complained "about the smell" and why. It's just ridiculous.

Electricity is expensive
>>

Tell me about it....A/C...right now it's about 100-110deg...trying to keep electricity bill under €200. Some massive grow with 1000W etc lights would be impossible respective would cost a fortune. (My LED grow light currently is 250W fully turned up which is very reasonable).
But then you save LOTS of money on groceries, doctors, vet.
Internet is also reasonable, have 300MB fiber (I wanted the fastest there is), which is €65/m. (This includes some Spanish TV channels and unlimited phone). There are cheaper options tho, could have 100MB for like €25 or so. So this is good.

Welcome man sounds like you've been having a rough time of it at the moment I think where you went wrong is by having a neighbour complain even though growing cannabis is classed as legal like you said the laws are stil very vague and once a complaint has been made you are technically breaking the law because the grow should be private away from sight and not affect anyone in the area it also helps if you are registered to a cannabis club Here in Spain to which you have a reason to produce mj for your club members.

Just to add I don't think your case will
Make it to court like your solictor has mentioned the spanish courts have no intrest in small time growers maybe if you where growing a few hundred I would start to worry but In most cases they just chop the crop due to a complaint and move on wishing you the best of luck with it and please keep us updated if you don't mind I would like to no the outcome thanks MRGreen

Man I am so glad I could keep the light, thing is I love growing, also hot peppers etc..it's really a big hobby of me.
As for the case, even IF it would go to court....wife has prescriptions and told them she is smoking MJ for anxiety (which is true), so I don't think we would have any troubles convincing a judge. Just so stupid. Every cow town (literally!!) has at least one grow shop or more..you can buy seeds and everything for growing, Spain is a pardise in this regards. But then they bust you for a few plants. Just stupid waste of taxpayers money. The big hauls come in from Morocco anyway.

BUT..lots of "big style" grows going on here, especially Alicante area...it's just crazy.
