Spacing for plants

So I have some raised beds and would like to plant 4 regular autos this season for seed production (hoping I get at least 1 male & female) and I'm wondering what kind of spacing I should have between plants. If I'm going for seed production, can they be relatively close (within say a foot of one another) to encourage pollination? The males will be chopped down eventually.

About 3’ apart should be fine. Hope you don’t have neighbors growing.

This isn't for a residential grow area so no worries about polluting other grows. I was curious how close I could space them as they'll be put in a raised bed out in the country with some other veggies nearby.
