Soundproofing Metal Cabinet

Hey Fam-

I've been reading through the forums for quite a while before setting up an account. Lots of great info!

I was hoping for some advice. I recently purchased a decently sized metal cabinet for my first grow project. Its dimensions measure out L56"×W24"×D20"

It's made of thin sheet metal that I may want to soundproof and make a little more solid to prevent vibration of the metal. I have reflectix to go over that or I can skip the drywall altogether, seal the inside real well with sealant and use reflectix.

I've read density is key and 5/8 drywall would do well vs. Plywood. The goal is to retain as much space as possible. As I would like to use this for 2 waterfarm plants.

Any .02 would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I would use some foam insulation inside

and a rubber mat under the cab

the down side of the foam insulation which comes covered with mylar is it will shed silver particles on the plants after a long period of use..

Any type of heavy mass added to metal will lower its resonant frequency.

I use any type of butyl based sound deadener on metal cabs & inline fans with great results, it will outlast the metal & 50mm works fine.

I can't post links yet. I found some Fatmat on Amazon. Around 50 bucks 30 sqft which would allow me to do 2 layers all around. Butyl based. Any experience with it?

Thanks for the feedback.

The last time i used fatmat it was asphalt based, never tried fm's butyl one.

ive tried noico 80mm butyl based from amazon and i had nothing bad to say about it, i like the diamond plate design.

Honestly double layer would be overkill but its up to you.

Thanks @SPLFreak808

The lowest offered was 10 and then 30sqft. 10 wouldn't cover everything. I also saw the Noico. I'll do a review comparison and see which one is more economically priced for my needs.

Thanks again, this has been bugging me.

I already purchased a roll of reflectix. I imagine I would still use this since I experience winters and this will be in my garage.

Don't beat yourself up too much, those are actually affordable.

This is what i use, not for growing of course.
