Soulbad's First Grow / Strain: Ice

Hello everyone! I have been reading these great forums for a few months now and finally have the time/money to start my own project. I will be starting with 5 seeds (the strain is "Ice"). Out of these 5 I will select one or two females to clone (6 clones altogether). I will just kill the others, most likely. I know it seems like a lot of work over 6 plants but I want to use this as more of a learning experience, as opposed to going for all out efficiency and quantity. I will be growing this in organic soil in a closet 30" deep, 40" wide and 8' tall under a MH conversion bulb in a 400w HPS system (will switch in hps bulb for flowering).

I spent the day at a local hydroponics shop that I recommend people check out, was a great experience. http://www.hydroponicgardensupply.com/. While I was there I did some shopping...
Purchased the following:
Biobizz BioHeaven (Nut)
Biobizz BioGrow (Nut)
Biobizz BioBloom (Nut)
Biobizz TopMax (Nut)
Foxfarm Ocean Forest (Soil)
Foxfarm Light Warrior (Soil w/ perlite)

Edit: forgot to mention every product above is organic =D

Need to go back again in about a week to pick up a good cloning product, some large plastic pots, moisture meter.

Tonight I started the process. Spent the evening mixing my 2 soils 50/50, starting the seed germination, and cleanin' out my closet.

I'm lining the bottom of my closet with 3-ply trash bag, just to prevent any mess or water damage. I figure it can't hurt..

For the germination process I'm using the simple-looking method shown in the "How To Grow Marijuana" sticky in the newbie thread. It involves folding your seeds up in moist paper towel and leaving it in a glass for a couple days. It seemed easy enough, going to have to wait 1-3 days to find out if it works through:sad:.

I don't have much experience with gardening before this but these soils feel/seem very high quality from what I've read here. Mixing was fun, and a bit messy.

Once the seeds germinate I'm going to plant them in 16oz clear plastic cups of soil to start, but we'll get to that another day...

All tips, cheers, and flaming is appreciated ;-)

Bought some clear 16oz plastic cups today and filled them up with moist soil, and planted the 5 seeds. Looks pretty good so far lol, got a cfl with a nice reflector just for a few days until my nice 400w HIDs get here that I ordered today =D.

Just watering for now, not adding any nutrients for the first 1-2 weeks because the soil is pretty nice in nutrients...

clear is bad the roots wont be able to get as big because when they go to push up on the side the light hitting them will kill the root....you need to either duct tape them or something or just get different not clear cups

Oooh, got the idea of clear from this https://www.rollitup.org/newbie-central/937-how-grow-marijuana.html .

I don't want to take any chances with my first time though so I'm going to cover the ones I've planted with duct tape tonight. Thanks a lot!!

Just been watering when they seem to get kind of dry, havent been watering to much as the soil has seemed to stay pretty moist.

It's been 2.5 days since I planted the 5 seeds...one plant is visibly growing, another one seems to be just peaking through, but no sign from the rest :-(! Any input on that? Is it normal for it to take this long to show signs? Thanks!

Including pic of the one seed that looks like it's doing well.

Gonna go light up and duct tape my cups to prevent light from getting in the sides. Peace:eyesmoke:

i've read a few times that some growers have had it take 14 days for a seed to germ

Posting pics from today...

Still only one plant showing any kind of life :-\. No sign of the other 4 seeds yet. My one plant is growing quickly. Still only using one CFL while i wait for my HPS/ MH in the mail.

Any input would be great, I guess for now I'll just pray that the one thats growing is female.

So...my damn camera phone is still broken. I really don't like updating without pics but...

Only one of the first 5 seeds ever actually split open when I germinated, and unfortunately that is the only one that has made it past the first week after planting them, none of the others even broke soil. She (hopefully), is however doing pretty well. Been watering for the first week, but now I am adding 2tsp of BioHeaven to my gallon of water for this weeks watering.

In better news, the 2 bag seeds I started to germinate a couple days ago both worked out great and I planted them this morning. Will hopefully have pics of all of this tomorrow!

ALSO i am ordering http://www.htgsupply.com/viewproduct.asp?productID=50100 first thing tomorrow! I'm very excited...have big plans for my 2 big closets that are conveniently located next to eachother.

Still no camera, just going to borrow a friends today hopefully so i can finally put some pics up...my girls are looking great.

Last week has been pretty frustrating...have had no phone (which meant no camera). I really didn't want to update without pics because i thought it would be kinda pointless.

That aside, my camera just got here! Going to take some pics and sum up everything I've done so far!

Alright, so today my veg lights came in. Finally took down my 2 ghetto CFLs and put in a really nice looking set of flouros.

Also got some 3 gallon grow bags, a good light timer and 25' roll of mylar.

I am long overdue for update pics, so I am posting several below.

The biggest plant is Ice, it was planted 16 days ago. About 5 days ago I could see roots clearly on the bottom of the cup and it was restricting growth; my grow bags hadn't arrived yet so I did an emergency transplant into a bigger plastic bottle. It is looking very healthy. but I am sure if I would have gotten my lights sooner it would be much larger.

The 2 smaller plants were bag seeds and were planted 10 days ago...they both seem to be doing well. Strain unknown, just some average bud.

The smallest is a bag seed I found in a very nice bag of weed, with a very distinct purple color =), I'm hoping it will grow to be anything like what I got it from...planted 12/25/08.

I also included a pic of some of the mylar I put up in my flowering room, not finished but it is looking good.

My temperatures are definitely not ideal, but I am looking into ways of helping that. Until then, I'll just work with what it is.

From now on you can expect daily pictures and updates.

I have been watering the big plant with my grow juice. (One gallon of water w/ 1 tsp of BioHeaven and 1 tsp of BioGrow)

The 2 smaller are getting my sprout juice (One gallon of water w/ 1 tsp of Bioheaven)

The smallest is still only getting water.

Any input is greatly appreciated!

Edit: Lights are on 18/6

if your temp is that low you could put those CFLs back in to add extra heat/light, and the ice plant looks like it is on that 4th set of leaves according to some thats in the official veg state now, get the HPS yet?

Well I actually have good news on the HPS, a good friend is giving me his 400 Watter ASAP.

You're right, it really can't hurt to put in my CFL's. Going to work on that now
