Evening all,

New to the forum, and new to growing,

Sick and tired of dealing with undesirables and have decided after seeing a friends plants to start my own little project.

I work for a gardening company but unfortunatly as a tractor driver so this is all new to me!

I have been told the best bet is to go for a tent with a kit set up.

So far i am set on either if these 2.

Obvioulsy the second choice from what i can see is the better option as it comes with a 200w cfl light instead of the lower wattage first package, from what i can gather i need a different light or bulb to make the plants bud after they have grown, and have been told to "switch" the light 12/12 when i want to bud. does this mean i will have to purchase a different light or will the one provided be sufficent?

im torn between the two, just want a nice grow for percy use,

your opinions would be much appreciated

many thanks

If you have a closet you don't need to buy anything more than a good cfl and a lamp. I've had great success with a ghetto grow set up. Check out the pics in my album. I've only bought 3 cfls, one lamp, a surge strip, and a timer.

Those kits will work but to get the super sized buds you need hps really. 200 watt aint gonna cut it i'm afriad. You could get some more cfl hangers to supplement mind you but you still need to ventilate somehow. I recommend a 250watt dual spectrum (can be used for the whole grow) cooltube for that tent which is a perfect little start out tent for yourself. You can get great results.

Firstly thank you for the advice,

So i was paid today, so have the money sitting here ready to purchase everything i need for my first grow.

Tent is the best idea for me as its easier to move around if needed. From the 2 links above can you tell me which one would be the better package for me?

As stated above if the bulb that comes with this package is not good enough for veg and flowering, i will need to buy this dual spectrum 250w bulb, and a ballast to power it i take it, any idea where a good place to buy this from?

Once i get some opinions on which of these 2 packages are best i will buy, set up, and start searching for the right light to go in. i just wanna make sure i get it right before i start the grow, no point making mistakes later

many thanks

haste makes waste man. i think you'll find that after you start growing that you will end up replacing everything but the tent that kit comes with. take your time and really think about how you wanna grow and decide what you will need for that. what do you want to yield and how often?

haste makes waste, very good saying.

well from my point of view i only want personal use, im not going to sell any of it, but looking at the kits above, they state that its everything you need to grow from start to finish, i thought id ask some more experienced people first lol, just to make sure.

I know for sure that it will be a soil grow, i plan to use cuttings from a friends plant, grow straight from that, i just want to be sure that i dont spend the money on this kit and end up having to buy more on top.

i know extra lighting will mean i need ventilation, as none comes with this kit i was planning on sticking some fans in tent anyway. if i can grow with everything in the kit that is provided then i will just make do, first grow and all that,

i would rather buy a better bulb as advised, if this means better quality grow and better bud then the extra money seems no problem

I can safely say that even if you are growing for yourself You cannot go far wrong when you go HPS i can confirm that a 600w works great. I too have a dual spectrum bulb and on my first grow i grew right the way through using the dual.
Well worth saving a little more, doing a bit more research if this is new to you and getting it right first time.

This is what can be achieved with a good budget and 6 months prior research.
This thread is a friend of mine.

Not saying you have to go this large for your first time and you can get a decent yield from CFL's but you need to supplement with quite a few in order to achieve it. And when you way up the running costs of maybe 4 decent CFLS's when you could have got yourself a 250W or 400w HPS dual spectrum and pay less to run it, then its a no brainer.

I only grow for myself in a closet that is 4x8x7 with a 600w.

Just a bit of help hopefully.

All of this must be a tad confusing! Just think simple. Simple is the way forward in growing cannabis. I'd buy the tent in the in the link below. Then stick 250 watts of light in it. Then buy some feminised seeds from pick n mix seeds. Their very reliable. Thats enough to get you going.

yes it does get a little confusing, i take it this 250w light i need will be better if it is a dual spectrum, meaning i will need a ballast ect and probably some sort of fan and ventilation?
