Soil water meters

Alrighty, it appears my thumb is not as green as I had thought! LOL!! I'm going to take my sad looking little seedlings that I am slowly torturing to death in there oasis cubes and plant them in some soil this weekend.

I have been giving them superthrive and will continue with that. I have FFOF and light warrior soil and will mix in perlite.

I need to get a handle on just how much water is the right amount. My local store has this meter

for $8. I think thats a small investment and I'm willing to spend more if there is something better I should get. Using a meter like this, what reading am I hoping to keep the moisture at?

Let your soil just dry out a bit. The meter I have noticed will go between 1 and 2 when it starts to dry up. Just kinda watch your plants, they will tell you when they need more water. Once they get a little bigger they will kind of look sad and wilt a bit.. That is when I water. Don't take too much chance with your small ones though. Push your finger in the soil and if its dry give them a drink. Not too much though, you want them little roots to grow and to do that they have to search for water, too much is as bad as not enough. Don't make the mistake of not checking your plants because you think they are good for the day. Take the time and check them and you will learn to read them. Hope this helps.

Imho, I wouldn't bother with a moisture meter. I've found the best way to know when to water is by the weight of the pot. Once u pick up the pot and it feels empty, then it's time for a drink. Don't wait til ur plant is droopin tellin u it needs the water, by then it's already under some amount of stress which we never want. :hump:

I just got one of these guys off eBay for around $10 shipped. It's a Moisture / Light / pH meter.
But I (also) don't know what the ideal moisture level should is. Any help out there?
