If you are new to growing... Even though a lot of people hate it (because they used it wrong) I would suggest miracle grow with the time release nutrients.

Why would I suggest such a cheap soil that people bitch about? Because it's almost foolproof for a beginner. You just water it at the proper times (never water all the time) and you're good to go for the entire harvest if it's not a long veg.

Add water, wait days or week until it's dry and water, goes dry, water.

That simple.

Start your seeds or cuttings in peat pellets though. (with only water)
Once they have a good rootball put the whole thing into the MG soil and water it only as often as needed.

It's hard to screw up unless you do things like add nutrients or try to flush the soil. Never try to flush a plant in MG soil.

Anyway that's just my opinion. Others hate the stuff and I did too at first until I learned not to use it like a normal soil.

I always grow(so to speak) my own soil. Horse manure ,sand, the decaying fallout from oaktrees, leaves and the soil around oak trees mix it a bit and cover with the hay horses dont eat but shit on in their corrals and a few bags of good potting soil get it wet and let it sit all winter. When you are ready you dig right in and take where you need to, I like to put P4 water saving pellets and Osmocote 9 month fertilizer pellets in each spot.Feeds when you water as it dissolves. Back when I drank alot i stood my empty cans up in the bottom of my holes covered with rocks and the soil after that. The empty cans would fill up when watering and the roots would tap in good. Plus i did not have to carry all the empties back. I know not funny.

compost is a much hotter mix and needs to be mixed. Potting soil is ready to go. OregonMeds is right about MG soils. You can even get moisture control soil with nutrients in it also. If you fuck up with this soil, you should find a new hobby.

Another cloned robot. Did you know that the State of California's own expert has determined the Guidelines(not laws) that the state has adopted are unrealistic, mainly for the simple, logical reason that NO PLANTS ARE CREATED EQUAL. What that means is say: a medical marijuana patient has the allotted 6 flowering plants, but they are 8 feet tall and will produce 2-3 lbs each of processed MJ. Now, his neighbor has 10 plants, but they are 3 feet tall and will only produce 2 ounces each. So , who do you arrest, The guy with 12-16lbs or the guy with 1lb4ounces ??????? see, the conflict officer ? Some of us want to ABIDE the Law and are trying to. Just take CARE to get the right ones. As a medical marijuana patient, i stay under the guidelines of 6 flowering AND 12 vegatative but my plants are only 3&1/2 feet tall. SEE THE DIFFERENCE ?
AS I MUST OBEY THE LAW, OFFICERS MUST ALSO. YOU DONT GET TO PICK AND CHOOSE WHICH ONES YOU LIKE AND DONT LIKE, DO YOU ??????
PROP 215 WON , & SO DID YES ON 8! SAVE 8 AND SAVE OUR KIDS!!!!!
