soil not absorbing water!!

My seedling mix:

5 parts peat moss
2 parts worm castings
2 parts vermiculite
2 part perlite

The vermiculite is not necessary, I just happen to have a big ass bag of it. So it would then be 4 parts perlite.

well....this was like a 3 dollar bag of miracle grow that was on clearance because summer is almost over. but i mean....its miracle grow, isnt that like a big name in soils and what not? why would it be crap? lol
Because it is. MG and pot? Does not compute.

What about making your water wetter by using water wetting agents or dish soap (not the anti bacterial kind)? These may help the water break through the surface of the dense soil.

this was a freshly opened bag of soil.
Take the pot with the seedling in it, put it in a larger container that will hold water. Water with water that has some dishwashing liquid added and keep adding it till the water comes up ~halfway the seedling pot. Let it sit for an hour or 2. It will get the peat moss wet.

well, sorry for the late reply, been finishing the room and getting the rest of the supplies for the grow. ive read around and i know you can have some crazy soil setups with all kinds of things you can add. im not trying to get that crazy with it. i was reading on several places about a peat moss and perlite mix. and how peat moss is acidic or w/e. i was wondering what the best ratio of those two to use. and could i use a ph up/down to control ph level? because thats what were leaning towards. were on a budget here.
