SOG or SCROG - To veg or not to veg..

Well I'm mainly curious to know this for myself but I think it will be a pretty good contribution to other people searching for the same answer. True SOG would mean having no vegative time, just moving the clones over to the flowering room about the time those roots start growing through. (at least this is what i have read) BUT would there be any set back letting them veg? How hard would it be to control the height even with the net? How much would the yield improve if this were to be the case for a grower? What would be the approximate difference in time?

I, myself am thinking about heading down the vegative route to although this diminishes the idea of SOG (but what do I care lol) however I feel I could be easily convinced to no veg, using my veg room for mothers.

i decided not to have a veg period and go strate to 12/12 on this grow (growing white widow) and 7 weeks in plant about 60cm and i expect she will be done in about 3-4 weeks and looking sweet man

depending on the strain i mean my W/W loves it. some strains may not cope so well without a veg period tho (not to say it wont work)

what i see to be the bottom line of it is if you want a big grow or a quick grow.i wanted a quick grow (bit dry about here at the moment) but saying that i cant see me loosing much and its done in 3 months

my W/W is feminized dont no if that would make a difference, thought id put it out there.

First of all you will definitely want to veg a SCROG no matter what. That is the only instance you should use the net necessarily, you should not need one for SOG. In SOG you are going to want to veg according to height restrictions and make sure to "lollipop" your plants because you are focusing all of the growth to the top cola. In SOG you can veg for a shorter time period comparatively and with more plants than a SCROG you are able to yield more faster. With SCROG you are vegging your plant into the screen until flipping to flower then allowing it to grow through the screen producing many equal size colas which yield more with fewer plants. Space/height and number of plants are normally the factors these days for the decision along with the obvious veg time. Good luck and happy growing, hope this helps.

my thoughts exactly! i have ran sog before and just didnt like the idea of catching federal charges being over 100 plants.

It is strain dependent like someone said above. I can run 64 plants per 4x4 in 5" square pots and you DO need a net because you take the clones 8-12" tall and you want a strain with STRETCH when it enters 12/12. The single colas get so heavy they will flop without a net. Indicas and Indica dominants need veg time typically though and are horrible yielders without it. Look at Al B Fuct's threads for a SOG with no veg that does awesome with Sweet Tooth #4 I believe.

You can use a net in a SOG but it is not absolutely necessary is what I meant where as in a SCROG you have to have a screen. Also just want to say that Al B Fuct is an awesome grower, I learned a whole lot about growing by reading his threads even though I have some experience before finding RIU. He has SOG down to an exact science it seems almost. Anyway good luck op and happy growing.
