Sodium percarbonate

I've been using alcohol for sterile technique for spore samples and syringes but I've recently started home brewing and for that I'm using sodium percarbonate. I'm thinking of using it for mushroom cultivation. Has anyone else used this in mushroom cultivation? If so, what were your experiences using it?

Im not familliar with sodium percarbonate but it's likely a peroxide based sanitizer , which can leave behind some toxic byproducts, (some also dont actually 'sanatize' but re-move the bulk of the bio's)

Just a thought , dont know if it would work or not ???

Good luck and report back please

Not a mushroom guy but that will leave plenty of salt behind. will your shrooms grow in heavy saline? Why not use peroxide and steam as a sterilizer?

maybe some cactus potting sand/soil, put in steel pot, put in 500ml of peroxide 3% and 500ml of water, cover, place in oven and steam for 2 hours?

over-the-counter peroxide at 3% will evaporate and leave basically nothing behind.

remember to uncover immediately after removing from the oven, this will evaporate any remaining h2o2. .. i`d say that would be pretty fk'in sterile. ;)

I almost never get contamination using my current method but I was curious about this chemical because it is rinse free. I figured that since it is harmless to yeast fungus that it may also be harmless to PC.

sodium percarbonate = Salt + H2o2, do you need the salt? Most living stuff hates large amounts of salt. Why not just use h2o2?
Na2CO3·1.5H2O2 is hygroscopic..

Anyway, I am a chemist, not a shroom guy. GL!

Thanks for the information! I guess I'll just stick with what I normally do.
