Smoking and acid reflux connection

Went to the dr today and he said I've got gastritis from acid reflux. He even said that almost every patient he sees with the condition also smoke marijuana and he said that almost every one that stopped smoking had the condition go away. Just curious if anyone else has ever dealt with anything like this?

"Almost every patient he sees with the condition also smoke marijuana"?! What a load of bulshit he is hitting you with, probably a selfish way to get you to stop, if anything it will help!!!!.

your doc don't like the marijuana or cigarettes like mine

it's more like what you eat and drink not a joint here and there

Yea any form of smoking can exasperate acid re-flux. If you already have gastritis your esophageal sphincter is already damaged or unbalanced so smoking would just make it worse.Try vaping cannabis instead. I have gastroenteritis and I cant drink alcohol, caffeine or smoke. I can smoke weed but not very often. Anything that relaxes the sphincter is no good. If you really want to smoke weed then don't eat before smoking that sometimes helps.

Yea I kinda questioned him at first too but the weird thing is I didn't even tell him I smoke weed. I told him my symptoms and the first question he asked me was do you smoke weed? Not kidding , I think he might be right. He said its the intense coughing that causes the acid to regurgitate back up into the esophagus and cause the burning. I'm sure it probably does have just as much to do with diet tho

Yea its dumb how he said only marijuana I'm sure all those other patients smoked tobacco also.
I don't think smoking marijuana alone would cause acid reflux you would have to already have a condition. Marijuana could easily relax the sphincter muscle and give you acid reflux but that's not to say marijuana is the actual cause of it. Its a complicated subject really cuse cannabis has many different compounds that have different effects. Usually people don't base their shit on science and just point fingers at cannabis because they are still to dumb and ignorant to realize all the scientific evidence proving cannabis being an effective medicine.

AHH! theirs the answer its the coughing thar causes the reflux so now all you have to do is minimize the coughing by taking smaller hits or vaping :).

My bro-in-law had that. It turned into cancer of the esophagus. He was gone in a years time. I dont know about its correlation to weed, but you'll want to try to do whatever it takes to treat that.
He also drank a case of beer a day. And he was the type that would eat a big meal and then go lay down right after it. A BIG no-no with people with that condition.
