I had some already started but I think they're hangin on by a thread right now. Silly me didn't put my seedlings close enuff to the light so they got pretty stretched and then the cats got at em. Got some more seeds germinating and soon I'll be ready for round 2!
SOunds good, yea you have to keep those babies close or they will stretch like a mo fo!

no kidding! shot up about an inch overnight! I couldn't believe it! Moved it closer and they still stretched more the next day!
No high powered lights right now either just a regular 60 watt lamp shining on em which doesn't seem to be a problem with seedlings just gotta keep it about an inch or two away. Definitely plan on getting some better lights soon and if I can't I'll just wait til springtime and plant those babies outside!

As long as its a cfl you will be fine. If its a regular light bulb they put off to much heat!

I would never use an LED. I would rather find a way to pump out hot air and bring in cool air. LED technology has whiffed in the grow world as the PAR rating (not Lumens as they are what the eye can see, photosynthetically active radiation is what light intensity plants use) is sub-par, at best. PAR is the amount of photons the light emits at the proper spectrum used by plants, which is between 400nm (blue) and 700nm (red). I haven't seen a great grow yet with a UFO or any other LED. Any information on these LEDs that is not believed, can be researched or get High Times 2010 Master Grow Guide and the article is titled "Future of Lighting" . I would just go with T5s if heat is an issue. Lowes has an 18" T-5 ballast for $25, which is awesome. Pyro Peaches, you might want to look into getting a few of those at $25 a piece and mix up the spectrum of bulbs instead of getting a high priced light.

led's might one day be great for growing...but not yet.unless you spend like 3k on a setup...its not going to cut it...they might be great for seedlings and clones..but thats about it.i give it another 10-15 years and then they might have led setups out there worth a damn...but as it comes to performance to price...id put cfl's up against led any day.and ofcourse hps and hd would kill both of those

damn straight. Price DOES NOT = performance. They simply do not give plants the proper spectrum. HIDs are by far the best, but if heat and money are an issue, CFLs are the best

i went for cfl this time cause of space reasons...i get inspections in my condo at least every 3 months....they are nazis here...just not smart nazis...so i had to keep it stealthy.im always gonna grow no matter where im living...its one of my many hobbies.but since my grow box is a dresser...i dont have much room...if i tossed a hps in there...it would be maybe 30" from the bottom...i would toast my plants...even if it was in a cool tube..heat isnt the issue..its the closeness of the lights.so i picked up a ton of cfls....im getting about the same results in veg as i did with my old hps setups...just not getting the same results in flower...not as dense as im used to.but only reason to worry about how dense it is...is if your selling it and need the weight...so as long as its potent...im happy...and hell...ive pulled some dank shit off with cfls.....time for a flashback...this was a a bud from my roadrunner from my last harvest...grown with all cfls..first pic before harvest...second pc after harvest

Although I have never used LED's for veg or flower I did follow this grow, he was growing around the same time as my round 1. I have to say I was super impressed by that 270w Lumigrow ES.

Granted I would likely give handjobs to homeless people before I spent 1200 on a light, he did a badass job.
yeah..you can get a decent grow with them...but to hell with spending that much for the setup....thats why i say give it a few years..technology becomes cheaper with age...i remember when a vhs cost around $600..now they are what...like $20-30..if you can find one that is

I guess that's good, but like I said, price does not = performance. He could have gotten the same or better results for far less coin.

I use T5s for veg and was not trying to start a LED bash fest in Smellyz thread. I use the HO T5 lights and due the sizes available he'd only be able to use a 24" long one and anywhere from a 4 lamp on up to a 8 lamp would fit. Problem is the 4 lamp will not effectively light the entire cabinet and the 8 lamp will make it too hot. I have them and I know how much heat they produce. It's not a lot but too much for the amount of ventilation he can get awaw with before the exhaust becomes audible outside the cabinet.

He'll do a run with the LEDs and see how it compares to what he's got going right now with CFL and then he's going to decide if he's going to stick with the LED or ebay them and return to the CFL. I already warned him that the UFO LED fixtures probably won't do what he wants them to and he said he'll give it a shot anyway. I guess he figures if it sucks, he can just come over and get some smoke from me, LOL.

He's been bitten by the grow bug now so as soon as he feels comfortable letting his kids know he's growing a little personal smoke he'll be using the cab for veg only and he's going to do a closet grow with HPS lighting. Once they know, he won't need to try and keep the cabinet quiet anymore too so he'll upgrade the ventilation and most likely run the T5HO lights. That's unless he likes the LED for veg anyway.

What up SD, glad to have you back. The last time I updated my girls was all the way back on page 70 2 days ago lmao!! This threads moving along haha..

About the Ufo Led's, I didn't know much about them so it was interesting to get your guys thoughts on them.

Now that where on the subject, Metal Halides do a damn good job and suprised the shit out of me for flowering!

Wow.... In one month's time you managed to have a thread thats like a mini book.... I feel like just to keep up I got to make a pot of coffee and stretch before I start reading.

I was just giving my opinion on LEDs as well. I wouldn't own one anyway because of the price and the fact I have a 6500K 125W Feliz Vegging Bulb and a 400W HPS for flowering. Plus, if I need more light, I can go buy a pack of CFLs for under $20

You definitely have to stay on your toes around here. Not blinking also helps.

Thanks man I'll definitely look into it! =] I just wasn't sure what I could use that would be ok for the plants but be easy to set up at the same time. I'm in kind of a cramped living space right now and the only room I could actually use to devote to my plants is too cold right now so I'm not sure if they'd be ok.
