Smell to determine sex, possible?

Ok check it out, I have no other explanation for this except it could be a precursor to sex.

Six plans, same strain, same nutes + conditions, 3 weeks into veg.

Three of them smell distinctly like cannabis, the other three just smell like plant vegetation. I mean the three are REALLY pungent, and the other have no odor (except that of a plant).

I've shown this to other people and they can't believe it, they notice it too on my plants.

What else could this be besides sex?

Honestly, I don't think you can determine sex by the smell of your plant, people come up with crazy shit....

i don't know what to tell you, but i certainly wouldn't decide to pull plants based on what smells and what doesn't. i don't have an explanation for the smell factor, but some people smell more than others, and that doesn't make them male or female, just stinky. the exception to that rule is the french, because they just smell in general.

No, you can't.......if I may be so bold.

It has been suggested that females give off a different odor (or pheromone), growing wild of course, in order to inhibit the growth of other females near by so they have a better chance to be pollinated, grow seeds, and reproduce without another female growing in their territory. Survival of the fittest (huzzah Darwin!) Or, in order to per sway a young plant near by to develop into a male rather than a female to make pollination more likely. If this were true, sexing of plants would be a lot easier, and most likely, already well known.

However, as I am not an authority on this matter, may I suggest marking the plants that you think smell like females and if they do in fact turn out to be females, please, let us know.

I suspect, this early in to growing (3 weeks, as you say), in maybe another week or so they will all smell like weed. Even clones from the same plant can develop at differently, let alone seeds, which I can only assume you are growing from.

interesting idea though.

I've heard this.
The males are more citrusy and females give off the distinct pot smell, this is what ive read no solid evidence to back this though.
I just hope not, cuz my plant smells of citrus >.<

I beg to differ - last go round I had three that smelled of tuna & they ended up female - two that had an odor of dried sweat socks & guess what - male. The last one positivly reeked of old spice and minty chamomile tea so I pulled it right away knowing it was a cross dresser.
Honest !
Peace

anyone who says no is an idiot !!!!

during veg, whilst watering you can smell a female, she wreaks
males smell like foliage from a forest ..

smell, label and check in flower .. Nice smell could be hermi, and a dull smell could still be female, I know OG's who still use that method, and the calyx color to harvest not the 30x, I try and change theyre mind and they laugh, they laugh at nute deficiencies and most of the crap on here too. Label the liklihood of the males and females to make checking easier. In kush plants I notice the males are more bottom heavy and the females are top heavy

From my experience, the ones that smell dank first are usually male since the males usually come in first. At least that's how it is with Sensi outdoors.
