hey, i'm going to be starting a closet ganja grow, and i'm curious if there are any plants that mask the smell of marijuana that i could keep/grow in the room the closet is in. mint... basil... some smelly or smell-neutralizing flower? preferably low maint. so i can put effort into my babies. thanks!

I am not sure, but I don't think there will be many plants that will overpower or mask the pot smell. I do, however, think that any other plant you put in with your girls will just steal light and clean air from them. BUT, if anybody can prove me wrong please do because I would like to know if there are any clever ways to rid the area of the smell!

mm, you're right that plants in the closet with mary jane would steal her light but i was going to put a couple plants in the room adjoining, not in the actual grow space, so the odor coming from the closet might somehow be processed or masked.

You could try lavendar, mint, catnip, basil, oregano, or any other strong herb or some flowers.

True, but he said something to mask the smell so I kinda took it as he didn't completly cover up the smell.

Long story short; there isnt anything "pleasant" that you're going to want to plant that will mask the smell. I tried lavender right outside my house, and even at its peak you could still smell something else.

hello, i just want to throw this idea out there tho i have not tried with growing but rather solder fumes. go to any computer junk store and you can get old burned out pc power supplies. it has a 12 volt fan inside that probably still works. you can upgrade to a ball bearing fan easily if desired. so now take the fan out by the four screws and mount on the outside now with some coarse filter between the fan and the body. tape up all but an intake hole and load with activated charcoal.

i have used these and still do to absorb the fumes from soldering. great bench top item. also you can easily make activated charcoal using burned toast.
i don't know how affective it is or how much it bread it consumes. i'm going to give it a try, tho i do not have smell issue to worry about.

hunysuckle makes a pretty powerfull and rather pleasant smell, would be my plant of choice
But seriously, if you're trying not to spend money, go to the DIY forums and look for the DIY carbon filter....you can make it yourself for like 10 bucks at walmart

Honeysuckle only blooms about 2 weeks out of the year, and it can't be grown inside. It does smell good though.

Get one of those plug in potpourri pots that look like a tiny crock pot. Put some hot water and ground cinnamon in it and let it simmer. It'll make it smell like you are baking. I have several of them. One is right inside my front door, so if the door needs to be opened they only smell getting out is cinnamon.

Be sure to refill your water during the day and every few days empty it and put fresh stuff in it for maximum fragrance potential.

plant some of these....
Stinking Flowers

i'd plant em outside though...
NOT A GOOD IDEA...... The fuzz will be serving you a warrent for having a pile of dead babies in your closet. neighbors complaining of a carcus smell.... Just get venilated and a carbon filter cause when harvest season comes, so does the parinoia. you need ducting, fan, filter, light.

yeh i have an almost grown up that gives the smell of coffee/mocha. it is not me my pals all say it outside grow is best of course. there is not fuller spectrum like the sun. but luckily i do not need to worry about smell.....everyone actually likes it but you know there is always that spurious event we wish not to happen. anyway i am a geek and love to experiment.

my girl grew up with water from below. she is living from water that emerges from only 25 feet below. there the water is hot but keeps the ground moist just a foot below.
the water 25 feet down is about 120*F. i plant parsley nexts to it. parsley keeps the ground acidic; the ground is normally over 8ph, just right for paparika.

a picture up soon. need some pollen. i am a rollitup newbe just getting around this site.
i'll be back....got gardening to do.

i wonder if the lavender smell can permeate the bud?

unless you got nices ventilation your plants will be lacking co2, in which case you want no additional plants in the area. If you have a direct outake for your air then try putting them along that path. Those scent things that plug into the wall can help a lot too.

I'va also had friends grow g13 because of its 'light' odor

I have 2 kinds of lavender growing outside and I can't smell it unless I bring the flower close to my nose.

I actually have a lot of plants and flowers and nothing out stinks my weed plants. That is why I use the cinnamon.

ROSEMARY! and thyme... i think that the best way is just to not worry about it and get a carbon air scrubber...
