Sounds like alot light for that area, more importantly IMO you would have serious heat issues.

WITH A 400 YOU NEED AN MIN OF 5X5 WITH AN EXHAUST FAN AND TWO SMALL 10 INCH CIRCULATING FANS AT OPPOSING ENDS. ONE FAN AT THE BASE OF THE PLANTS AND ONE TO BLOW ACROSS THE TOPS. INTERNAL TEMPERATURE SHOULD NOT REACH OVER 80 DEGREES NOR BE UNDER 55 DEGREES WITH A CONSTANT HUMIDITY OF 50 %.
NOTHING EVEN THE LAMP FIXTURE SHOULD NEVER BE HOT TO THE TOUCH. FOR THAT AREA I WOULD US FLOURESCENT LAMPS ONES FOR VEG THEN CHANGE TO A FLOWERING SPECTRUM LAMP. fLOURESCENTS ARE COOLER AND USE LESS ENERGY.

okay well what if i fentilate the shit out of the area cause heres my deal, i found this killer light with two fixtures in one, a 400 mh and a 400 watt hps for a unbeatable price of 35 dollars, if absolutly not would a 250 work?

Hi M8,

My first post here but just wanted to say that I'm using a 435W HPS in a small budbox (about 4feet tall 1m x1m base) and it is WAY too hot in there. With a fan in there I'm getting about between 85 and 90 degrees F in there even with the flaps open. I guess it would get even hotter in your grow room.

Looks like you would need some serious ventilation I'm afraid. It's looking like I'll need to get some too

Hope it works out for you

u just need to get a bigger extraction fan. one more powerful or build a cool tube reflector, this may help. or there is always an air cooler to help drop temps!!! 4 ft isn't alot of space considering the size of a pot and fixtures will take up 1/4 of that.

you need a foot from the light to the top of the plant, then you got the plant pot, so thats 2 foot gon? and then you got to grow yor plant?? you wood never get rid of the heat of a 250w let alone a 400w,,you need 6 feet hi by 3x3, with a cooled hood and a exit an intake fan,,,

not necessarily if you had a cooltube. My 600w @ 4 foot ceiling is able to be touched as it is NOT hot at all.

I am writing up a diy myself, but there is already a good version up slightly different from mine.

here

Enjoy!

i have a trick for that one dog, i was going to weave the plant from side to side by tying it down to the floor making the stem completly horizontal wich would give my plant 2.5 feeet of room from one side to the other than another 2.5 feet from that side to the other like almost in a circular motion but damn im going to try mad to get it to handle a 250 cause damn that would be a lot of light for a single plant with in my theory will be like steroids for growth and produce a fast monster

hey super how fast did that thing sprout?

and one more huge concern is the smell, im not sure what to use, i have this gel shit, like a "deodinizing gel" or something that is said to suck in any odors but im not sure its going to be strong enough for my room cause my dads a smoker and would know and he would for alomost sure kill it (go figure, hes paranoid)

Hey all,

Just installed a Chaysol 5" fan VT-127 B in the tiny budbox and temp dropped from over 90F to 78F so it looks like it's possible in a room that size. Problem now will be to hide the exhaust tubing.

hey super how fast did that thing sprout?
You mean the seedlings? About 48 hours. Grew alot in 5 days since then and then slowed because of the high temps.

I've only had the fan on for 2 hours and already the the plants look like they have a new lease of life and the ones that I thought were about to die have started to uncurl their leaves. They're liking the environment now.

On the question of fire hazard I took this from the Chaysol Specs
"All motors include an internal safety thermal overload protection device as
standard"

The Chaysol is rated at 280cfm and about 80watts. Cost 140 Euro for the fan and a huge exhaust on the high street. They said the fan by itself would be 70 euro.

Howdy, About 3 inches in 5 days. 8 plants which are a mix of Indicas. To be honest since this is my first grow I don't even know how fast it should grow

You would be surprised at what space you could get a 400w in, i wen't to a friends house and he was growing in his loft. It wasn't a massive loft or anything but he actually had 2 400w's in there and he had the lights about 7" away from the plants and they looked fantastic.

A 400 could well be a possibility as long as you have got somewhere for the warm air to escape to.

i have a 3x3x3' area and plan on getting a 400W HPS, i was going to get the ballast connected to the light for around 140 bucks, add a glass lens to protect plants for 15 bucks, and get a fan on top of the light for like 40 bucks, that way i can completely suck the air out of the room that way, i just dont know if i should make my own cooltube
