Skunk seeds just germinated from the mid 1980's - 35 years old!!!

I was recently given a load of 60 seeds from a someone who had them in his refrigerator since the mid 1980's. He said they were mostly all skunk. To my amazement, I got 26 to germinate. I'm totally blown away and really excited. Right now all 26 plants are about 5 inches tall, some with fat leafs plants and skinny leafs, but it's too early to tell male from female. My question is - were there more than one type of skunk weed in the 1980's? Here's a few pics showing some with skinny leaves (sativa) and fat leaves (indica) on them right now. I'm hoping someone can maybe identify these who grew skunk back then. Also looking for some direction so I can save these old strains. Thanks.

That is really cool that you were able to get 26 seeds to germinate that are like 40 years old, that's incredible. This is super cool for me to see because when I was trying to get back into growing again I couldn't find anyone that had seeds because all of the strains are feminised and messed with so much that you don't find seeds in the bottom of the bag anymore let alone see anyone growing any old school stuff. I had to stop smoking when the weed started getting so strong that I couldn't handle it, I'd smoked every single day for over 10 years. So now I'm growing lower thc strains to try to get the old high. I wish I knew what to tell you about trying to save the strains, the only thing I can say is if you end up with males to let them go to seed to then harvest the seeds and keep them but they will turn any females you have male so you won't get bud from them. You will get heaps of seeds though that you can use for your next grow then you can weed out the males and keep the females for flower. Good luck

Yeah there was a few things folk referred to as skunk for one skunk1 also what folk now refer to as roadkill skunk likely a afghani hybrid of some sort most just called it skunk tho to add to the confusion you will know what you got once you grow em out im betting its just good old skunk1 from looking at the seedlings at a glance tho but who knows

Are you suggesting that males will grow seeds and will turn the females into more males? I don’t think that’s how it works, they will pollinate the females and the buds will have seeds in them. Still perfectly good smokable bud, just pick the seeds out like everyone did in the good ol’ days. Have your Mom explain the birds and bees one more time, and rethink giving advise when you have no clue what your talking about please, it confuses people.

Edit: And to the OP keep us posted on the Skunk. We’ve all seen the same post a hundred times so excuse some of the skepticism, if it’s real deal 80’s skunk let them males make seeds however they want, and take a clone or two hundred from the females before those dirty males change them.

You gonna let us come take cuts? If you haven't notice everyone here is looking for old school skunk strains
Yup I have noticed. I too have been looking for that old skunk since the 90's. And if there are skunk strains in this batch of seedlings? I'm really not sure what to do as it may be a gold mine. I wake up every day pinching myself. But, I'm not here to market anything, I'm not selling anything, and I'm not giving anything away. Right now I just want to grow these and see what they turn into. My goal is to save these lineages, what ever they may be. And yes, I plan on cloning. Ya, I miss the real old skunky weed and would love to restore the lineage. So many damn hybrids these days that tastes like sage and pine.
