Ive started to notice a few black gnats on or flying around my plants, ive got 14 plants that are around 10-12 inches tall.

what would be the cheapest and or most effective way to get rid of them.

not sure if it matters, im growing in hyponix potting mix in 1gal. grow bags.

Watering too much! They are fungus knats.
Or they could just be gnats slipping inside the house. I always see 1 or 2 flying around and I just swat em and I have no probs. If it is fungus then you need to increase the air flow and try and lower the humidity.

The only gnats i see is from over watering my plants. A few will live and the rest die. Its from haveing the soil moist on the top. The soil drys too fast for a epidemic but a few live. Thats why ya have a few. hang a pest trip up.

Slice(s) of raw potato placed on the soil's surface will draw fungus gnat larva into the flesh when left a while. Simply discard infested slice(s) and replace with fresh. When no larva are detected 2-3X's in a row, the immediate problem is solved.

As noted, this is a improper watering technique result. Adult gnats lay in wet top soil and, if this soil remains wet, they thrive. Always allow soil surface to dry out before adding water.

I like to keep the top 2" of soil turned and it usually takes less than a day for it to dry out so nothing can even begin to live
