Sick seedlings

Hi All,

They are just in peet pellets. We haven't seen any roots going through the peet pellets and they are about a week old (since the time they were planted into the Peet from paper towel germination. We were told not to transplant until the roots are through the pellet. So the solo cups have been on hold until the plants roots are showing.

The cotyledons are starting to yellow and fold down. And those that have prominent true leaves are yellow slightly at the tips. there are 6 seedlings in total 3 are just above the surface and 3 that have a inch and a half of stem. But all aren't looking healthy.

It has to be either watering, heat, or light.

Light: The 12 LED uncapped (60w) are about a foot about the dome of the seedling tray. There is a large fan blowing air over the down, and the dome is not perfectly sealed. this entire week the light cycle has been 24/0. Last night that was altered to 18/6, and this morning we reduced the number of lights on from 12 to 6 bulbs (turned off the outer rows of three).

Heat: Our humidity / therm, monitor is delayed, but the fan has done a good job of circulating the air. It could be too hot in the dome which does look like it's also drying out when we get home. But they are LED so even with all 12 on, it doesn't feel extremely hot (above the dome). Inside it does feel warmer.

Watering: Using a mist sprayer to wet the peet pellets each day as they look dry. We also leave excess water in the tray so that the dome retains humidity. It has been very hard to water these and the peet pellets look dry on the bottom.

Seedling Dome: Should this be on of off? Should it be sealed or partly venting?

Fan: On only when the light is on.

We didn't have this much trouble through seedlings in the past, but we also didn't have quite this type of light set-up last time. Just want to provide everything for these little ladies and it's killing us that they are failing to thrive.

nothing to do with your light.

misting a peat pellet is not sufficient watering. the inside is not wet, the bottom is not wet, but the sides of the cube is??
lift a new dry plug, feel the weight? now soak it in water til it expands. feel the weight? now dunk the pellet in water again if/when it feels light again. you do not need a dome to grow seedlings. cold cause many different issues, like damping off, mold, air flow, heat.

a posted pic goes a long way towards proper diagnosis

i wouldnt say their doomed but get them in some good ventilation and let those plugs dry out a bit before potting them into some solo cups. theyre very fragile rn so its possible anc is right, ive had a couple seedling lose a cotyledon and never grow the same (ferrets are dicks) but id say those have a chance.

these are seedlings not clones!!

Well we just gave them a thorough watering and left excess in the pan.

They are just a week old. Is it impossible to remedy?

Obviously all supportive comments are welcomed..

They also show signs of nutrient burn.
I'd scrap it ad start over, if you plant seeds now and do it correctly your new plants will overtake these even if left to live, by orders of magnitude in 2 weeks..

Stop watering they are very overwatered and stressed because you have them in a dome with high humidity. You dont need a dome with seedlings at all. Also now they have germed let the pellet dry more between waterings.
Not sure if these ones will pull through they are sick, stunted and yellow and you cant do this with young seedlings, they cant recover.

Thanks everyone for the comments.

The seedlings were transplanted from the pellets into coco. Hopefully they can pull through, but if not it's a learning experience. We won't be using the pellets on future attempts, as they didn't really seem to work as well as they had in previous starts.

The dome is gone, and they are going to received water every other day. The root system on these plants is super small so the transplant may end up being too much for them. Trying to be positive even though things at the moment seem rather depressing.
