There are two primary ways of growing mushrooms.
"cakes" and "bulk"
Cakes means you mix flour with verm, in a jar. inoculate the jar, allow it to colonize, and then pop the colonized "cake" out of the jar, and fruit it.
"bulk" mean you take grain. (Wild bird seed, rye, or popcorn) put it in a jar or bag, and innoculate it.
But once it is fully colonized instead of fruiting it. you take this "spawn" and mix it with "sub strait" that has been pasturized.
at which point you incubate it a second time, to allow it to re-colonize and recover from being broken up.
one that is complete you add a casing layer and fruit it.
Bulk takes more steps, and has a higher chance for contam.
In the end, you have to find what works best for you.
try both at the same time, and hopefully something works.
then you will have more spores to experiment.
