Should you filter intake air for air-cooled lights?

Hey everybody,

What do you think? Should the intake for air cooled lights be filtered? Not the intake for the grow room itself, only air that is cooling the reflectors.

If so, would a bug screen be sufficient or is a more heavy duty filter like Phresh or HEPA needed?

Bug screen if intake is from outdoors. Prevent bugs/debris/small critters from gettin' sucked in @ your lights/fan.

If its just to an interior room, maybe even not that....

(If pets live in the building, screen every fucking air inlet you have.... Not one mite since the day I moved outta the carpet laden house where dogs lived....)

I use pantyhose to filter for my air cooled lights

I bought screened duct covers at the grow store. They are almost like a hair net, rough screen on outside, finer screen under that, then a carbon pad (I doubt it does much. .). Since I've been using them I don't get nearly as much dust in my hoods, without them I was getting so much dust I was losing light output by the end of a cycle.

I wouldn't. I haven't had to, but when is dirty enough, I'll just rinse it off, shake it dry and put it back on. It's just stopping dust, it's not going to wear out or go bad.

Rogue pollen is the curse, look to ur neighbors for guidance,

if they grow, and are poor growers you can expect some male/hermie pollen to pay a visit

if no others around you grow, you can assume its safe to operate without a pollen filter

but used hose works for most inlets, keeping out bugs

its very much a case of keeping sharp of what happens in your immediate perimeter

Like all filters coffee, carbon and these, do block over time,

you may catch on eventually, noting that you only get molds in the rainy weather,

in fact the water droplets/rain/ humidity block the cores of the filter,

avoid when the Rh is over 60%, or remove temporary like

They only filter my light cooling air. Room air is handled separately.
