Should I take glass out of air cooled hood for more footprint or leave in with less footprint.

I've got a 4x4 tent with 4 12"x12" square pots creating a 2x2 area for plants. My issue is with my air cooled hood. If I leave glass in I can get 12 inches from canopy but it seems as if the footprint gets to small. When I remove the glass I have to raise lights 24 inches to control heat (600 watt hps Genesis bulb). What is my best option here for top shelf bud. Not looking for more yield but more quality.

Also, is the extra heat without glass worth the extra lumens or is the lower heat with glass worth the lumen loss?

Average temp is 77- 80f with lights on with glass and 80-86f without glass.

If you have co2 and can keep fresh air on the plant, keep out off. If not keep it on.
IMO I would keep the glass on.

I honestly don't think that the lumen loss is that severe to the plants. I'd keep it on, that's what it's there for.

Keep a couple of fans going 24/7 . Plants thrive with constant fresh air .

What would you recommend cleaning it with? Windex?

Just like a window , glass get dirty . I do mine in the morning before lights come on so that the glass is cool . I use Windex and news paper .

he said clean once a week, leave FANS on 24/7.
on my 400 watt hps i tried it without the glass, my cheap lux meter said there was less than 100 lux improvement, and it raised the temp in my flower room 10 degrees. keep the glass, clean it once a week. on top of the heat, if that bulb ever breaks thats a shower of HOT glass and metal filament bits raining down on your plants

Personally I hate air cooled fixtures. Sounds as if you need to work on you're ventilation. I run open fixtures in my 4x4x7, but I exchange my air 1 1/2 times a minute.

All I run are bat wings no AC. I run 9x600 HPS just in my flower room. As it gets very hot here over summer I run 2x10 inch fans with 2 more as a back up for the warmer days. Room size is 8x10x7 it work great

My shed gets up to 30 degrees warmer than outside so ventilation is always maxed out until the outside temp drops to 65 or less. Usually 65-85 degrees where I live in spring and summer. The air cooled hood helps a ton. Just has a small footprint IMO. I run a bat wing in fall and winter because my shed is so cold then.

Also, I'm running a booster fan rated at 260 cfm wide open most all the time 20-24 hrs. It pulls the air from my hood and room. How many times a min do you think I'm exchanging my air in tent? Thanks

Booster fans are not strong enough for HID lighting. By the time you pull through a filter and you're light you'll be lucky to have 50 cfm of ventilation.
