hello i live in central cali, it doesnt snow here but it gets perty cold. I am building a 17x30 room outside and was wondering if i should put in a concrete floor or just leave it dirt. I have very good soil here and just got done with my first outdoor grow witch went ok.. now i want to try a outdoor room i also was thinking i could run some heating cables in the dirt, what do you guys or gals think? i will also be using 12 350 watt led panels ,the walls will be insulated and i pour concrete for a liveing so it would not be that much to pour my own slab. thansk for any input or help.....

I can't see a downside to having a proper floor, besides you may have to get approval for such a building, which, you may already be doing?

the frame is already up it use to be for houseing goats ..i guess my question is what would be better concrete or dirt? if i pour concrete i think the floor would get cold for my 18 gallon bags i plan on useing or could i just plant directly in the dirt and not have to worry about the cold for the roots???

with 18 gallon grow bags I don't think there is much advances in the ground, so might as well make a concrete floor, it is all ways colder down low at ground level, if that is a concern, specially as its easy for you, nobody says it need to be 3" deep unless you do have hard frost ?

Dirt is no better an insulator than concrete.
Since goats are involved, I would go with the concrete. it's easier to clean than dirt.
As far as root temps ... you could buy a sheet of foam insulation and make coasters of it for your pots or bags. Just a thought. cn

ok concrete it is then, thanks for the input i was only worried about the roots getting cold because i am going to be useing grow bags.. but i guess they will be fine if the room will be insulated or would you put foam under the grow bags or just lay them right on the concrete ?? sorry for all the ??SS my first time trying indoors/outdoor..thanks

Does it smell like goat shit in there? If ya have the time and money put a good floor in you may want to use it for a long time. Good luck

I agree with match box you can use that floor for a good long while and if you pour your own it shouldn't cost you too much. I vote for concrete.

Pallets with plywood make a rather durable floor and you don't gotta get a permit from the city/county for the concrete slab.

i dont need a permit so that isnt a concern just was trying to figure out if i could grow directly in the ground in the winter time or if i should just use grow bags on concrete thanks ...

Concrete for sure. If you want it insulated you could put some closed cell insulation board on top of the visquene. I'd think about putting a drain in now too if you have somewhere to run it.
You can put heat trace cables in the concrete in conduit if you really want it heated...sounds like overkill to me though.
Nice sized room dude...i'm jealous:peace:
