Should I go to Jamaica or Amsterdam?

Okay guys, I have decided I am going to on a trip after I get out of school with some of my friends.

I am thinking either Jamaica or Amsterdam. I would love to go to both places but I have some reasons against both.

Jamaica:
Pros
-They speak English (and some Patwa)
-Bob Marley tourism
-ITS FREAKING JAMAICA
-Beautiful beaches
-Cheaper travel fees (I live in the States)
Cons
-I don't think Rastas like white people too much.
-Making friends with drug dealers as an American tourist could get me robbed or gypped (I can NOT pass for Jamaican).
-Marijuana is not technically legal, so I could still get arrested if some cop didn't like me.
-Fewer countries that I could also travel to

---

Amsterdam, Netherlands

Pros:
-IT'S FUCKING AMSTERDAM!
-Decriminalized marijuana, plenty of cafes.
-It is close to my favorite place in the world, London, England.
-I could travel to other European countries besides England
-Not as hot as Jamaica
Cons:
- I don't speak Dutch. (I do speak German and French with great proficiency, could I get by? Do they speak any other languages in Amsterdam?)
-Expensive.
-Kind of a rough town from what I am told
-I am going to practice International Law in the EU, so I would get more opportunities to visit Amsterdam than I would Jamaica.

There is what I have so far, anything I can add?

Never been to Jamaica...but A-Dam is a fun town/fun time for sure if you like to smoke weed non-stop/party all day...

Worth every cent. Somewhat expensive...but hey...for me it was a long-time comin....so i didn't go overboard..but I didn'ty sleep in a dump/dive either. (we rented an apt w/ kitchen and saved $$$ that way)

Oh...and everyone speaks English bro. Lotsa Brits too. As far as "rough"...we had no problem/saw nothing as seedy/scary as in most American cities...etc. and we were out late most nights. It's tourist-geared and that's the revenue source ...and yeah...there could be problems for those who are too fucked up/beligerrent..etc..like anywhere else... but we found that the coffeeshops w/ the weed were quiet and the bars with the european sporting matches/alcohol were the rowdy/places to avoid. Most of the obnoxuious stuff happens..just like in America...when the bars let out...

We have as good as..if not better than..pot here in the US iof you grow yer own. BUT..the selection oif hash was sure a lot of fun...and we tried a lot of bud just the same...just didn't find anyhting all THAT special. In the end..places like Twede Kramer that were hash bars/hash heavy were the places we went the most...

goin back next spring..i hope..we'll see how the $$$ is by then...

fun reading here...but don't believe every word in the reviews. we found all shops to be fairly tolerant/nice places. If it wasn't and you sat down anyway...it's **yer** fault. A lot of folks whine too much and evidently..expect the World to STOP when they walk in an establishment. We were low-key and it was a BLAST.! good luck

Thanks for the info BTDT! You pretty much sold me on Amsterdam. I love Europe so it would probably be a better fit.

And Taipan, If I go to Amsterdam I probably won't go to the Cannabis Cup. The CC is on Thanksgiving every year, and I would much rather be with my family on Thanksgiving, I barely get to see them and it is nice when I can. I mean, the CC would be great fun, but the timing is just off.

And hey, just because I don't go to the CC doesn't mean I can't smoke the prize winning weed!:joint::mrgreen:

yep i say go with moxtox van city is the bomb,
but if you want to go to jamrock or dam, i will give you my feed back for jamaica as i havent been to amsterdam yet.

the beaches are lovely, the rastas are great very friendly, willing to chat and share stories. try not to go to the touristy places as they are shit everywhere you go. over priced crap basically. people will try to sell you shit and beg for money as it is still a poor country. i went to negril and the moutnains behind negril and had the time of my life. i lived in a rasta's shed on the land where he was staying ate fresh fruit and veg everyday, and smoked lambsbread all day long. i went in the off season so to avoid all the other travellers and man it was great, so laid back. red stripe beer cheep as hash cheep as (dont buy of a taxi driver they sell good stuff but its way to pricey.)
its an island so most of the activities are water based, swimming, rock pools, etc.

i guess you have to ask yourself what it is that you want to do ? if youwant to smoke weed all day in the street then amsterdam would be better or even vancouver but if you want to get away, stay in the mountains, and chill with nature then jamaica is the place for you.

Why the fuck do americans like London so much!? I live in the midlands (of england) and visit London like once a year, and can tell you it is a shit hole! And everything there costs twice as much as everywhere else!
What do yuo like about London so much?!?

But yeah i'd say amsterdam, as I have been there. Oh yeah, are you going alone or with mates? or girlfriend?

Yo Woodsman. I've taken this from another post I made to save time, so sorry to anyone who's seen it before:

My wonderful girlfriend took me to Amsterdam for my 21st birthday just before Christmas last year. It was awesome!
Things I'd recommend:
Rookie's coffeshop
The Rijksmuseum
The Vincent van Gogh museum
A tour of the canals - we took a tour that's run from Boom-Chicago Boom Chicago - Reach us
It's not your average tour, which is ehat makes it so much better. Basically it's run by a charity who resurrect old canal boats and then use them to show people around the canals a few at a time. Don't go in one of those horrible massive glass roofed monstrosities with fifty German tourists, get a picnic together, buy some good green, and go see Amsterdam from the water.
Also, if you're wondering about where to stay, we stayed at the museum hotel
Amsterdam- Hotel Museum
Just make sure you're in one of the new rooms at the front, we were on the 2nd floor right at the front of the building with a balcony overlooking a canal, which was lovely for a post-coital smoke!
Here are some pics

The missus looking a little yellow at the sight of that big ole White Widow doobie

The back of the flower market at night

A nice little canal

And another!

The cool architecture

The dude who took us around on the boat

Hope this helps my man

I have been to both places. It truely depends on the kind of trip you want. In Jamaica you will most likely try to stick to a resort and not venture too far out. You would probably get some dirt weed at the airport or by asing some locals. Be careful though. I have been to Jamaica 3 times and do recommend it for a relaxed vacation.
Amsterdam well that is a whole other experience. I spent 10 days there. There is so much to see, do, smoke.
I highly recommend Amsterdam for you and your friends to party it up. 5 of us went and it was a blast. Check out all the coffee shops and head shops. You will find the best stuff in the world there. Don't drive there either, it is kinda crazy. Lots of sex there too, in the red light district. The museums were cool too.
Good luck.

I am really thinking about it, and I feel like I would have more fun in a place like Amsterdam.

I go out in nature all the time (my name, Woodsman?) and when I visit somewhere I want to party.

I probably won't get any "girls", because I'm not in to that sort of thing. I have not decided who I am going with yet, probably a couple of close friends, maybe a close lady friend, I dunno.

It is looking like Amsterdam right now though, unless I hear about some serious fun times in Jamaica.

Alright,
Having lived in Amsterdam half my life, and having been to Jamaica, I seriously recommend the latter.

While Amsterdam is an awesome place, with beautiful buds and even more beautiful dutch ladies, it's a definite tourist trap. So much so that it pretty much sucks to be within a five mile radius of the central square, Dam. If you're the adventurous type, and are willing/ interested in exploring the far reaches of the city and not just the red light district and surrounding sleazy areas, than it's fucking sweet. Good, less touristy coffee shops include Marrakech and Amnesia....well worth the journey.

If you want to experience life like you never knew imagined, and really challenge your perception of reality... go to Jamaica. Travel along the northern coast, from maybe Montego Bay to Oracabessa.... but FOR CHRIST SAKES, AVOID MONTEGO BAY AT ALL COSTS!! It's the Cancun equivalent of Jamaica, if you catch my drift. It's seriously lame. Anywho, with your rental car (a must for a good time, and 4x4, for the love of god) you can drive along the coast and find pristine beaches, wonderful people, and all the fish you could ever want to consume. You can find private little cabanas for less than $20 a night, and very tasty reefer by asking any reliable looking, friendly (but not the salesman type) rasta dude. About halfway down the coast, you'll be at the foothills of the Blue Mountains. For maybe $40, you can find a driver (def a good idea) to take you round trip up to see the coffee plantations in the mountains. Well, the Blue Mountains are renown for the best coffee and ganja in the world, so you do the math. I bought four pounds of the tastiest coffee i've ever had, $15, and a pound and a half of sticky sinsemilla for $50.

Good times my friend, good times.....
