Should I buy a MH Lamp?

High All,

In previous grows I have mainly been using 125W Fluoro for seedlings and clones, then moving them into 400W HPS for about 1 - 2 weeks veg cycle then flower. This time around I will be SCRoGging and require an extended veg cycle, should I bother buying a 600W MH lamp for vegging or should I just use the 600W HPS.

Here are my choices:

1. 400W MH + 400W ballast
2. 600W HPS + 600W ballast
3. * put 400W MH inside 600W ballast *
4. * buy 600W MH lamp for 600W ballast *

any suggestions,

Are you doing perpetual? If not then while your not using your 400watt hps you can a. Run just hps for veg work just fine,
b. wire a switch inbetween your ballasts igniter and it will then be a switchable hps/mh ballast

Or if your doing perpetual I'd just go with a new 400watt mh or switchable

I should've mentioned I have both 400W and 600W switchable ballasts, so should I bother buyng a 600W lamp or just run the 400W MH lamp in the 600W ballast or just veg using the 600w HPS.

MH has a blue spectrum better for veg, hps have red for flowering, both spectrums would be better

unless your 600watt is an adjustable digital then you cant just put a 400 watt bulb in it. id recommend running your 400watt ballast with mh for veg and then the 600 watt hps for flower. hope thats what your looking for
