Hey all im new hear and i hope to soon start my own grow and share my experience with you. I have decided to to go nano and stealth and I am going to use a large PC Case for my grow.

Im a bit stuck as to what lighting i want to get, my original plan was to go with 125w/150w cfl which i could purchase for <£20 on e bay.

Then i discovered LED ligighting which really interested me. I noticed that it was a very expensive option but I figured there is no reason why I cant build my own. I also noticed there was a type of led called "cree" which emmits high ammounts of light in a small package. The website dealextreme.com under the diy tools and parts section stock leds and i was wondering if these would be any good as a grow light?

Another question is what would be equivilent in LED wattage to a 125/150w cfl?

Thank you for taking he time to read my rant :)

LED's are lacking in spectrum. Red and Blue do not work as well as a fuller spectrum. Also LED's in the far red spectrum are very expensive and not cost effective for a hobby grower. This can be partially fixed by using an incandescent bulb with the LED's.

I'd give it some time so that they can figure out the correct spectrum's to allow for better bud density.

CFL's have proven to do quite well.

If you still want to build your own and experiment, these threads are just for you:

I think as you say stick with CFL's for now. I do however enjoy buidling shit and hoping for the best so I may do some experimenting with LED's using clones from my the cfl batch I do.

Another question is Im going to be flowering pretty much straight away after they start growing due to low space, im going to feed the plant through like a esh so its like a canopy (ive seen this done successfully elsewhere). I was wondering do i really need to use a 64000 bulb to start off with? can i not just jump to 27000 staright away/

You can go all the way through with 2700K bulbs. This was done in the Buds For Less book.
