Short plant growing Technique

I'm looking to grow some, but since I don't actually have a grow-room, I use my room. Now I know that most of you will probably say that it's a horrible idea, because of visibility, smell, and whatnot. I need not be reminded of those few things, as I have them sorta covered.

My question to you, dear experts, is to know if there's any way for me to grow small, and if needed, bushy plants? I'm looking to camouflage it in grow box with some spearmint plants (which I have found that they have somewhat similar leaves, and have a tendancy to be quite smelly too :P).
I've heard of making a 24/0 schedule, but that had me thinking, wouldn't the plant normaly get overstrained with growing and die because of it's lack of rest?

Many suggestions are appreciated. Please keep in mind though that I am going to be growing only 1 plant at a time, and that I'm not expecting to make anything spectacular. Please refrain from suggesting anything that would have me go into excessive building, buying, what have you.

Oh, and just a small pointer, I'm growing out of pleasure, and as a simple activity, not to try to make mega bucks off of this, or to make myself a kingpin in my neibourghood. (Especially since old-folks in the suburbs aren't particularily fond of drugs and so on, but like I said, I'm sorta covered on that side)

Thanks for any input! ^_^

Keep lights as close as possible to plant without burning, they will stretch if light is to far away and be taller.

Lights close = shorter plants
Dont veg to long go ahead and flower and it will stay shorter also.

If you are gonna be growing one plant at a time i would use a large carboard box.Line the box with mylar this will give the lights you are useing more reflective light.make sure that you keep the lights close to the top of the plants.Because you are growing smal you want the internodes to be realy close this will give far better bud sites.use good nutrients and there is no reason why you should'nt pull 1 ounce dry.I would not flower a plant any smaller than 6 ince it just would not be worth the while.Lighting times you don'y have to have the lights on 24 hours have them on 18/6 off.I also think that it is good to rest the plants from the light for a short while but there is nothing wrong with 24 hours a day every day till flowering.Flowering small is the way forward for indoor growers because no matter how big a plant is it will only have good big nugs on the top 6/12 ince.I'm not saying big plants don't produce but when you have to keep everything under wraps you have to flower small. The only way to get good results from big plants is if it is a medi grow with loads of lights. But the way the law is at this time it is not possible to have big plants unless like me you also have a outdoor grow.

Alrighties, thanks for the pointers, but worry not about the law for me. Since I'm not in the US, most your of "anti-drug" laws are quite similar, yet, oh-so-very different. In other words, it's almost hard to get arrested for smoking or possession of weed. Long live Frenchland!
