Shipping Question

A friend recently moved to CA and wants to ship some of humboldt's finest to us still stuck a home. Suffice it to say back home is in a midwesternish state. My questions are what shipping method would be best? Also, if I have my friend, who has substantially less to lose, get it shipped to my house in the friends name and have him sign for it, does that help me absolve myself of some legal culpability if the shit hits the fan?

Shipping kind buds nowadays is a risky proposition. Trusting a friendship to hold up under charges of interstate trafficing is even riskier. I wouldn't do it, but I have a family to lose....

I feel ya, I do as well. The whole thing sounds kinda sketchy, but two of the ppl I buy from get theirs in the exact same way, which makes it tempting.

it can be done via USPS express mail. It's rushed through and doesn't sit in one place too long. A good vacuum sealer to hide the smell makes it a lot easier. I know someone who was busted for this, though. It was intercepted, a federal agent posed as a mailman, delivered it, then busted the recipient, raided the house and everyone went to jail. That's not to say months and months of packages didn't go through before they caught on, and they caught on because people got careless. I'd say once is okay. Over and over again and the pattern gets recognized. They have the ability to check how many packages are going to certain addresses and can search your package on assumptions. I would advise to have it sent "no signature required" so no one has to sign for it and it's just left at the door. Be home, track the package through USPS.com via the tracking number, but don't answer the door when it comes. Wait it until they're gone.

People ship it daily via UPS. Like Rambler says, vacuum seal it well, wash the odor off the "package", then re-package it and send it next day air. As long as it doesn;t sit in one place and the odor doesn't permeate the packaging it should be fine. I've shipped live clones before.

best time of the year to use the USPS to mail it is during the holiday season about mid december...they have soo much shit going through if you pay for express they arn't going to hold that up at all...to remove the smell vacuum seal it in a smaller bag...bleach the outside of the bag...put that bag inside another vacuum sealed bag with coffee grounds in it, seal that up, then bleach the outside of that bag...then put that in an express box and have the postal worker put a perishable sticker on it :)

USPS rules on perishable items:

53 Fresh Foods and Other Perishables

Fresh fruits and vegetables are nonmailable unless presented in a dry (not dried) condition. Other perishable foods that are capable of easily decomposing or that cannot reach their destination without spoiling are nonmailable. Packaging must be strong and securely sealed as required in DMM 601.1–8.

here is all you need to know:
The following is a copy of an article in the current issue of NORML's newsletter Freedom@NORML (Fall 1995, Vol. 1, No. 1).
"Drug Package Profile" Instituted to Crack Down on Marijuana Growers

In an effort to clamp down on marijuana growers using the U.S. Postal System as a means to distribute their harvests, the United States Postal Service, in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Administration and local officials, have constructed a "Drug Package Profile" to alert postal employees to suspicious mail. The mail profile focuses primarily on the following characteristics:

size and shape of the package;
package heavily taped to close and seal all openings;
hand-written labels;
unusual return names and addresses;
unusual odors coming from the package;
fictitious return addressee;
destination of parcel;
multiple packages sent to same address, but to different persons
packages mails to arrive for delivery on a repeated basis.
Packages fitting all or some of these descriptions are generally deemed to be suspicious and will often be removed from the conveyer belts of mainstream mail. Once the package is isoloated, a drug-sniffing dog is brought in to investigate further. If the dog reacts to the package, the police will obtain a search warrant. The package is then opened, its contens fully examined, and a controlled delivery by DEA agents and local authorities is made. (Often times, a singaling device may be placed on the package as well.) Depending on the circumstances and the nature of the delivery, the recipient of the package may be arrested immediatey upon acceptace or his actions may continue to be monitored throughout the course of the day.
Although many of the characteristcs of the "Profile" (e.g. hand-written labels and heavily taped packages) appear to be quite general and/or vague in nature, the courts have consistently upheld the "Profile" and have deemed it not to be the basis of an aribtrary search. Therefore, as long as the package is opened by either: a) a private citizen or b) an officer of the law who has gained lawful possession of the package through the action of a private party, the courts have ruled that the procedure does not constitute an invasion of the defendant's privacy and is, thus, not in violation of the Fourth Amendment. Moreover, if mail being sent by Federal Express or UPS is "accidentally" dropped or damaged by a employee -- thereby exposing the package's contents without probable cause -- the illicit evidence will still stand in a court of law.

Consequently, even though many prosecutors continute to call for a "drug exception" to the Constitution, real life repeatedly dictates that modern America already has one.

Vacuum bags inside mason jars, incase the jar gets broke by some dumb employee you have a backup with the bag. Vacuum bags leak after a while and I wouldn't put all my trust into a thin piece of plastic. If I was doing this, I'd rather pay the extra shipping for the weight of the glass.

lol thanks dick, I got too much to lose, family, house, college degrees, job, etc. A few years ago, sure I'd do it no problem, can't be a self centered prick all the time but you wouldn't know much about that would you?

Use one of those UPS/mailbox stores and give a fake name...I worked at UPS and there is not way they can even xray 1% of theirr volume. I sent quarter pounds down to Florida when some friends got a 2 year job there...granted that was before 9/11.

I think I found A work around by sending it to an empty house a buddy owns and picking it up there. I just got to get the sender and the homeowner on board, but my thinking is we get it sent overnight tomorrow and it gets delivered while the homeowner is out of town at a football game so he has 100000 witnesses placing him a couple hundred miles from the delivery and I can scope everything out then when it's all clear stroll in and scoop the package

If you can thoroughly deodorize the package and overnite it, you should have no problems. Have the return address from a reputable business.

word to the wise, what got the people I know busted was sending large amounts of cash through the same way, express USPS mail. That made them look harder at the packages arriving at the house. They saw money was coming from one address, quite frequently, so they looked at the packages going to the same address, saw there were multiple packages coming, fairly regularly from California, so they got a warrant to search the package. It all went downhill from there. :)

this seems like a good plan. there are not that many ways you can get in trouble doing this. they can either track the package back to you. or bust whoever receives it for possession. now lets go through precautions one may take to avoid these two scenarios. for the first, it would be traced back to you if there is a way for them to know that you packaged it and sent it. now this could be a return address, the place where you mailed it from or lastly anything in the package that could be traced back to you. for a return address use a valid address because an invalid address will raise a flag. as jack harer mentioned a reputable business address is a great one. somewhere that sells products over the internet and ships to peoples houses. it should be somewhere within your vicinity so it will look normal to be shipped from your postal area, but it should not be anywhere you frequent on a regular basis also a mom and pop shop would be much better and so long as they are not doing anything like this they will be fine even if the package is found.
now lets go on to the next part: the person receiving gets busted. for one you should not use a fake name if you are sending it to an address put someones name on it who lives there. mail carriers are very familiar with what names should be on address and anything funny would send a flag. when the package is delivered do not get it from the mailbox. wait a few days or at least 24 hrs, do not sign for it, if they want you to say you did not expect anything and you dont know anything about it. the main way the person getting the package would get busted is if the contents are discovered. you should take every precaution to avoid this. earlier in this thread i have posted the memo from usps about what suspicious packages look like and how to identify them. make sure your package does not fit any of these criteria. vacuum seal your package multiple times and do this as close as possible to the time you plan on sending it. vac seal will slowly degrade over time and the sooner to time of sealing the better the seal. when you are handling the package use gloves, when you first seal the inner material put on a new pair of gloves and wipe down the whole thing with alcohol, then vac seal again. repeat this step a few times so there are atleast 3 layers then put the package in a padded envelope and then put it into a flatrate box (use a box from the post office). do not keep the package around anything that might put smelly particles on the outside. then you are gonna drop the package in a blue box. make sure it has the correct postage and find a mailbox which is not in view of a camera. beware of security cameras which may have the box in their view. drop the package in the box. a time close to pickup is good especially if it is hot out. you dont want that package sitting in a hot steal box the smell will start to escape. then go home and wait. do not contact the state which you are sending it at all. develop a code before hand to let each other know if it has arrived. if it takes a unusually long time be careful.
usps is the best bet because they need a search warrant or a directive from the post master general to open your mail. the only way they would get one is if it smells. vac seal well to prevent this.

all the information above is meant to make this as risk averse as possible, but know this if you are doing something illegal there is always a risk of getting caught. i would not do this on regular basis. all of the above is to make sure they do not discover the package in transit. if you are doing this on a regular basis, then the pattern will show up in another oversight system and then the investigation will begin. take heed of what rambler420 has to say. if you do the same illegal act repeatedly the probability of getting caught rises very quickly. i hope some of this info is helpful and i hope you stay safe and smart.

oh and btw, i was only joking when i called you a pussy. if you feel for any reason that you might get caught do not go through with it. good luck and stay safe.

Thanks guys. I am thinking about having it sent to the empty house under a fake name because it's a one time deal and I figure the postman won't know if someone has recently moved in or is in the process of moving in until after the package gets delivered. If it happens it's gonna be a one time thing. I need something to get me thru the next month til harvest. I figure next day air only gives the parcel so much time to leak and any investigating of the package to be done then if it doesn't get delivered next day I can just walk away from the whole thing

i would still be wary using a fake name, but i think you should be fine. you could always use the last name of the person living there and a fake first name, then the mail carrier may think a family member moved in or something. you would never actually do this of course this is all hypothetical:wink:. good luck and be safe.

A one shot deal should be no problem. I get regular shipments from a company in San Diego, each box weighs 13.5 lb, and I get several boxes per mo. Now there is nothing illegal in them, but there could be. Just be sure to make a label with a legit merchandising warehouse, catalog center, or somewhere you could have bought something legit, have the thing next day aired and don't worry about it. If you were getting regular shipments, that would be another thing.
