Shiatsu Kush / Blue Dream Room

So this is the opening salvo in my grow room chronicles.

I just re-organized my 10 x 12 x 8 growroom in order to support a perpetual harvest. The first thing I did was had an electrician come in and install dual 20 amp circuits and 4 standard 120-v receptacles in the closet. That ran me about $100. I've got running (2) 1000-Watt lamps with hortilux bulbs. They're hung at about 7 feet in order to provide the best spread of light in the 10 x 6 x 8 partition. In order to offset the distance of the main lighting, I've also hung (2) 400-watt lamps/hortilux MH bulbs for side-lighting. I've got to tell you, this provides a great spread of light and spectrum.

Heat isn't a problem... With a little ingenuity and common sense, I figured hell, "why don't I reverse my ventilation system instead of buying a perennially expensive a/c unit?" So, what I've done is turned the exhaust port into an intake port. It pulls fresh air from a second floor window. Though the outside temps get down to between 38°-48° during night hours, this setup combines perfectly with 3000-watts of radiation to keep the temperatures between 70°-76°. This is great for several reasons... 1) Ventilating scrubbed exhaust into my apartment eliminates infrared heat signature from leaking 2) It keeps the apartment at a manageable temperature, which allows me to avoid running the heater. This obviously saves a mint in electricity costs. 3) When I was pulling air from inside and ventilating outside A. the port had to be hidden on the outside from passers-by, thus restricting exhaust potential... B. When running the heater, the temperatures would almost instantaneously climb into the mid-90°'s... C. Temperatures were routinely 82°-90°... which caused airy buds in the past... D. It was hard to scrub the air properly which caused my apartment to funk up. This was a good idea all around. Even during the summer months with night temps between 60°-65°, I can run this setup with the faith that the room will remain manageable.

Couple notes:

I'm using General Hydroponics' Flora Duo and supplementing with Advanced Nutrients Sensi Grow, some Superthrive, some Actinovate (an organic anti-fungal), and store grade Hydrogen Peroxide.

I'm vegging a Blue Dream Mother, a Shiatsu Mother, and a Skywalker Kush mother. If I obtain any male plants, I will be growing them out and capturing the pollen in order to experiment and cross.

Here are a couple of photos of my 80% finished, 40% full grow room.

Standby.

It's definitely nice to have the extra space. I think that I could actually run upwards of 4000 watts but right now, I'm going to wait until I'm really profitable.

Hehe nothing wrong with 2800 watts. But a 4800 SoG would be nice :P

I'm not too hyped on the SoG method because 1) with a perpetual harvest, I can veg. my clones for 4 weeks or more and obtain big healthy trees without sacrificing time. 2) I absolutely abhor dealing with mold... And mold is virtually inevitable when plants are habitually close, from my experience. I once ran (24) Chem4's under 2000 watts and in about week 4? Mold appeared... Week 4 1/2? Mold had spread through half the garden. I got it under control before it ruined my crop, though. But lesson learned.

I think that in this room, I may top out at 3600-4000 watts tops. I could probably run (2) 1k's, (2) 600's, and (2) 400's... But I don't want to push it right now.

Shiatsu3SkyWalker1.jpg Out of a batch of seeds... I decided to germinate 3 Shiatsu Kush and a Skywalker Kush......... They sprouted like convicts from an abandoned prison. It's going to be a good summer!

It's the end of week 2 and the bud formation on the Blue Dream is looking good... Today, I cut the lighting period by a half hour. I'll do this every 2 weeks to progressively mimic the shortening of the days approaching the winter solstice... By the time we get to week 8-9, the lighting period will be down to 10+ hours of light, or so.

The new seedlings are looking sweet, too.

Treez_BD-3March13.jpgBlue Dream poppin' off right now... It's the start of week 5. We got about another 30 days to go and I may say, these ladies are looking pretty chunky already. I'm a firm believer in a long veg period if you're a small time grower... I find that my yields are easier predicted when I just let the ladies veg out after an early fimming. She wreaks already... Slight skunk and light but concentrated fruity smell.

What was the Shiatsu Kush like? I can find very little information on it and I have one I'm just waiting on to sex, germ'd on the 14th of July but no signs yet! I'm taking that as a good sign. I'm seriously excited to see it grow out as I've never seen any other strains come out of Japan, was it particularly different or have any traits that stood out?

Mine has huge (wide) leaves and the first three fingered set that came out were mutant and all joined to make huge one fingered leaf (both sides). Odd. Apart from that it's pretty vigorous! I have 19 strains vegging from seed (will reduce to 12 after males removed) and it's certainly holding it's own!

What happened to the Shiatsu Kush grow,i never did see any buds porn from the mother you showed??????????????i just got some ,and done sprouted and got some baby's going on,woulda liked to see the difference in male and female of the strain!!guess il figure mine out when time comes!!Blue Dream looked beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!
