shade netting

Hey fellow outdoorsman and ladies maybe this is my first year trying to grow outside. Ive had numerous succesfull indoor grows now but i am quickly finding out that outdoors is a whole new challenge. I havent really had a problem with the usual bugs aphids, mites, thrips that kinda stuff. My only problem is with grasshoppers those little jumpy bastards totally ate a few of my plants up when i went to the mountains for a few days on a hike. The whole plant was eaten away except the stems all the leaf matter was gone the plants looked like skeletons. These plants i was not too concerned about as they were just a few plants i stuck in the ground outside my legal garden. So no biggie there but my plants in the legal garden are starting to suffer now from the bastards. I sprayed them with neem and also covered them with shade cloth. The garden gets a good 15 hours of straight sun during the day so the shade netting has had no ill effects in the 5 days it has been up. I think i have actually seen more growth with the shade cloth now with temps in the high 90s they must like it in there like there own mini climate. The plants are now starting to get too big for the shade clothes there under that i made so im gonna have to make a bigger setup for each plant or what i was hoping is to get advice on how to get deter the grasshoppers i know i cant get rid of them because there is simply too many but anyone have any pointers for the grasshoppers. heres a pic of a few of the plants out there this was a few weeks ago and there about double now.

I dont have slugs if i had slugs i would know but its goddamn grasshoppers. I dont know why some people put there two cents in when its just a dumb answer. I know its grasshoppers because i can literally see them do there damage in front of my eyes. I know its not slugs because it is way to dry for slugs in my garden. My garden is on a farm its a legal garden. This year in Montana has been one of the worst droughts we have had in years so every farmer is kinda fucked on there major crops like corn, wheat, oats etc etc. You all should watch how the corn prices this year are gonna be way high. Alright well if anyone has anything for grasshoppers please let me know. And its not slugs so you two that posted something dont post again i dont want your unintelligant non thought answers.

I got these little grass hoppers, they eat soo much they can hardly jump out of the way.
I tried yard guard but it didn't last long so I just keep the weeds back and share the plant. But
I never lost a plant even a limb so far knock on wood!!!!
I'm looking for some preying mantisas to turn loose on them.

Yeah theres soo many grasshoppers there like a blanket of jumping fuck sticks when i walk through the grass. The shade cloth is helping out alot but they are soon going to outgrow the netting so im gonna have to get some more netting and fencing to put it up around each individual plant theres 8. Next year i will get the praying mantis eggs and try to grow them up to put out there. Its just too late in the season to order some mantis seeds and hatch them and grow them to do any good. When i was reading about them it says they eat things as big as they are but they will be small before they get big enough to do anything these grasshoppers are big. I was reading some info on the state of montana ag site and this year on avg there are around 25 grasshoppers per sq meter. I believe where i am at there is more than 25 per sq meter. Ive been killing the shit out of the ones that get in the shade cloth with the plants. I squeeze there heads off while they are hangin on the cloth so they just dangle in there dead with no head my hopes are that any other grasshoppers wont wanna eat around the plants if they see what happens to there kind. But the hoppers i have read are cannabalistic so i dont think they give a shit about eating my plant while there headless buddy dangles next to them. The shade cloth is getting little stain marks of hopper blood and guts. Mother fuckers next year i am investing in a green house. I knew we got grasshoppers out there bad but this is a bad year all the factors were good for them to thrive hopefully they will move on to find greener pastures but there is none. Fighting these grasshoppers and seeing how much of my plants they eat on each day has seriously got me stressed out to the point that i get nauseas when i think about it. I took a pic of that plant in the 45 gallon smart pot

You can see the damage on the bottom branch lil bastards that was all in a days time yesterday they had no damage what so ever on that plant really. Im thinking of spraying heavy shit around my garden if i cant find a solution i found a recipe online for an organic spray deterent with garlic and mineral oil anyone know what that is.. Is it like pro tekt? I was gonna try the garlic stuff all over the shade cloth and some buckets with water and mollases to try and drown the fuckers.

Well i just wanted to do a little update and show what i have come up with to fight off the grasshoppers. My big plant that is in the 45 gallon smart pot you can see in earlier posts has been eaten to shit. within 2 days i bet they ate half of it. You can see in the pictures im posting here the before and after. The Royal Purple Kush, Northern lights, Herijuana and Purple Wreck are all covered in Shade cloth and they seem to be loving it as they have really been growing after they have been under it. The bugs havent been eating the shit out of them so they can focus on growing big and strong for me. Heres the pics. You cant really tell how big the plants are in the pics but there all about 3 feet tall topped and trained. For anyone that lives in a climate like this one with tons of grassshoppers if they are eating your plants up i would suggest this it really works but i also suggest that your plants be in a spot were they get lots of sun. My plants get straight sun from the time the sun comes up all the way till about an hour or so before it goes down. Well heres the pics. Theres also a pic of some Liberty Haze i am cutting up it really looks like shit i used the snowstorm on it early in flowering and it burnt the shit out of my plant but i finished her anyway like 70% of the leaves were burnt and fell off at 3rd week of flower she took forever to finish or get as close as she is. I had to finish her tho because i had no sativa bud left and thats my prefered smoke.

Well i thought i would do a little update the shade cloth is working for the most part a few little hoppers get in but they cant eat up like a whole swarm does. I am aborting trying to save them all as my cousin is talking about his card expiring and he doesnt wanna renew it cause it cost 75 bucks so theres 4 less plants that can be out there growing so i told him if you let it go your plants come down cause im not gonna risk it with the planes flying over. So i saved one of each genetic. So my four plants are Northern Lights, Purple Wreck, Royal Purp Kush, and Herijuana. The purp kush and the herijuana are looking good there all looking good but these two look best. Heres a few pictures as an update. The Royal Purple Kush is the bigger of the two. But there both so beautiful and have about a month of vegging before they go into flower i am thinking im not sure tho as this is my first grow so heres the pics. Also the shade cloth has kept the plants from getting too hot i put a hygrometer in with them and they stay atleast 10-15 degrees cooler in the cloth.

subbed. nice plants. yeah try to find some preying mantis'. I had a problem with grasshoppers and kept having to blast em with a wasp spray and stomp em out.....these grasshoppers were on steroids...like 4 inches long and a inch wide. Anyways they stopped coming around and I thought I just punked em out of the garden area, but one day I was taking a picture and I saw this little fella001.jpg 3 days later I found his green twin brother and introduced him to the garden. but now I only see the blue one. maybe he killed green one....moral of the story is. get these you will be glad you did.

Yeah its too late in the season to get the preying mantis eggs now so im gonna have to just battle them out to the end. May the best man or insect win. My shade cloth has been working wonders tho i know that if the nettiTng wasnt on them they would be a little bit bigger but just for them to be alive and doing good still while most of the others are gone is good enough for me. Next year i will do the mantis thing with a green house sourrounded by chickens. I went out today and made the Royal Purple Kushs home bigger it was getting too big for its space. The plant is now about 3 ft tall and 4 ft wide. I have been tying down the main branches to make a bush with an even canopy. The stock on the girl is getting big much bigger than any plant that i have vegged inside. I am so looking forward to the real show in a month or so to begin. heres some better pics from today.

Heres a few pics so you can see the structure. Shes topped and being trained and tied down. She looks to be the most vigorous in the garden but its hard to tell because of the hopper damage to the other plants im sure they would be getting big too if they had leaves to covert to energy.
