Sexing, schedule thoughts...

A friend of mine has 1 week old seedlings. He plans on growing them to clone the females, and grow sog style using clones from a mother plant. He has 1 chamber for veg and 1 for flower. The flowering chamber only allows for around 18-20" plants max.

Heres the question:

:joint: Hes a newb, and these are his plans for the first crop. He plans of vegging for around 50-60 days, he will then take clones from each plant, let them veg for a week to get some roots and flower for sex. Once sex is determined he will dump males and flower the female clones while keeping the oldest females as mothers.

Does this sound good?

Is there a way to make the first crop harvest faster? I heard if you clone before a plant is 2 mo old it could be bad.

i dont take clones before then(20 mo) and you want to takeyour cuttings from the bottom of the plant(has something to do with hormones). i wouldn't flower the clones that early you'll get like a eighth.because you know it's female i'd take advantage of that

So what would you do with the clones that will be put into flowering in order to determine the sex?

AT WHAT age can you tell sex with a plant thats in the vegetative state?

im not exactly sure what your asking but a clone does not need to be sexed because it has the same genes as it's parent. therefore if you get a cutting from a female the clone will be female. so if you know it's female you should grow atloeast one out and take cuttings from that. personally i don't flower anything under 2feet. the payoff isn't worth it. think about the veg cycle as determining the max amount of bud you'll get off that plant. if you dont expect much then flower it

I m sorry im high and not making much sense. What I meant about the clones was for his first grow he would clone the vegging plants, then flower the clones to determine all the plants sex. He doesnt know what the sex of the seedlings are.

How many Plants?
you could take clones from all the plants you have growing, after there old enough to take cuttings.
when all your clones have roots, Flower the Mothers of the clones.
you kill all the male mother plants and there clones.
Your left with Female Mothers, and Female clones.
about 2 weeks before your mothers are done flowering you take clones from the clones. They should have been vegging for about 6 weeks or so, and should have grow pretty good. Ok, you only want to take clones from the clones that there mothers have exibted the traits that you want in your grow room. In other words, you have a mother that has flowered kick ass. well you'd want to take clones from the Clone of that mother plant. Maybe theres a few plants that didn't really do that good, maybe there buds were small, you wouldn't wanna take clones form that clone of that mother.
You Flower all of your clones that are coming out of Veg. That clones of the clones that you have now will have the traits that you want. This way you have no mother plant, you just keep on cloning clones. You ca even take more clones and let them veg out longer and have more yield. the important thing is that you have some clones to flower all the time. And theres allways something in veg mode. Theres other ways to do it. this is just one of those ways.

I believe that by the time he does clone his veging plant, it will already have revealed it's sex as male or female, You obviously need to determine this BEFORE you clone the plant. Once you know it's female, you can go ahead and clone it. Because the Mother is female, the genetics of the clone will also be female hands down. It would be wise to veg your clones for a length of time if your looking to produce high yeilds per plant. If your friend is having hight limitations, then flowering right away may not be such a bad idea as mentioned earlier you may only get about 3.5g dried per clone....however multiply that by 9 clones.....and you do the math, SOG for that method should work rather well. Also LST technics can help with producing higher yeilds per plant without worrying about hight as much.

Right. See you don't waste any time waiting to see if that plants male or female. You all ready have it's clone. Cuttings are really easy to take, from any plant male or female. And you know whats even easier? Cutting down male plants, and tossing the cutting that came from it. What your left with is Females, and you didn't waste any time waiting to take clones.

ThATS exactly what he wants to do! No mother plants. Im always too buzzed to explain it! Thanks man!

That way he wont have to worry about large mother plants growing too tall for the veg room right?

Ive seen people on here with real short veg times pull close to an ounce per plant too. Im hoping hell be lucky like them.

Good questions, I wanna say it was from clone and they only vegged for like a week. Then again I was probably baked blind while reading it :)

sounds suspicious... make an appointment for me to examine and taste the buds so we can get to the bottom of this:bigjoint:

Seed --to--> 4 weeks old take cuttings
Your cuttings take lets say a week to become clones (have roots)
Your Plants that are in Flower will be there for lets say 9 weeks.
Your clones you just took have 2 months to Veg and then before they go
in to 12/12 Flower you take cuttings off of those plants, and the cycle starts again.
no mother plant. Well the clones are the mothers...

Thats just one-way.. You can do it any way you like, you can harvest every week
if you do it right. I think the main concept is not having any mother plants.

You are correct. Should you cut clones and then send the "mother" plant imediately to flower or do you let it veg for a little bit after you take cuttings to let it heal?

It all depends.
I don't top the plant to take the cutting. I use a side branch.
If you'd like to wait a week you could. It's up you.

I was just wondering if it might stunt the plant a little bit. Thanks for your help man!
not that I have noticed. I'm doing SOG so I prune alot. Every 5-6 days or so.
even in flowering i'm pruning all the time.
I think the plants like it after you've pruned them every week for a couple months. They must get ust to it. Like your training them to be able to handle it in a way.
