sexing only a branch

I have grown before, and heard something the other day that made me skeptical. I was told that you could sex plants by just covering one branch.
Is this possible?? Could I actually just cover one branch and not turn the lights back to 12/12 until I already know their sex???

Any help is appreciated.

ha nope your not a idiot, ive heard about that before but haven't done it, the way it works is you need a paper bag and cover only one branch so it gets 12hrs of light and 12hrs of darkness, be sure to tie the back so no light gets in, but not too tight so it stress's the branch, in ten days or so you should know the sex of your plant, lets all pray its female :bigjoint:

Is it really necessary to know the sex before the first signs appear? What kinda time-frame are you dealing with between the first signs of sex, and the release of pollen from the male plants?

It also lets you take clones earlier and maybe even pick out a mommy plant before flowering. I would just sex the clones but I have looked at the branch thing.

in my state, more than 4 is a felony, don't wanna veg guys for 4 or 5 weeks. If I can find out 2 weeks after germinating, I won't have to grow them and waste nutes. I might also pop all 10 seeds I have and try to find a mom, then grow her clones.
