Setup question

CAM00482.jpg So, originally I wanted to run with the pump inline. I have decided to go with a submersible pump instead. My question is at the turn of the elbow(line heading back to res) can I put my shutoff valve there, and run a hose and not PVC back to the res instead? Would I then have to run that hose line into the res, attach to the pump....then what? I have been watching videos and the inline pumps attach to some kind of line(PVC or hose) then up and into the res, then attached to more line with the return of the water from the grow buckets. What would the submersed pump be attached to inside the res? What would be the point of it? I guess I could attach some kind of drip system, but that was not the direction I wanted to go with. Can you guys please give advice, suggestions, share videos to help with my build? Have done soil plenty of times, but first hydro. Want to make sure its right before I start drilling holes. Thanks in advance. My tent is 2x4x5 by the way. Hopefully you guys understand the drawing and my explanation.

In this instance and with this setup, you will want to just use an inline pump. I'm going to assume you have the reservoir level with the buckets, which means you will have a UCDWC (under current deep water culture) setup with a shut off valve to isolate the buckets and reservoir. The shut off valve will need to go between the buckets and reservoir drain back, which means your pump will act as a shut off valve on one side, and an actual valve on the other. You're going to want a steady current without resistance on the pump since it's going to be used constantly, therefore you should keep the tubing all the same type and size to maximize smooth flow. The only reason you'll need a submersible pump in this setup is for changing out your water. Hope this has helped :)
