Separation of your young ones (two in same pot)

YO, so the other day/week I had asked about what to do with two seedlings growing together in the same pot. A few answers were separation asap and others were saying to leave as is... I choose to attempt to leave as is....

Well today while checking on my babies, I noticed on a 3rd seedling that there was a new sprout popping up like the other two. (so much for believing about floating seeds in distilled water) So anyhoo I made up a new pot and scooped up the new sprout and moved it to avoid another two in the same pot problem.

While I was at it I chose to try to re-pot the other two young ones to their own homes. There was a great deal of roots and once I had them free there was still a tap root and a few smaller side roots, but they lost a good deal of their developed roots. It seems reasonable to assume by doing so the following could take place.

1. it will kill them due to root loss and shock
2. Shock and stunted growth for a few days/weeks
3. New roots will grow and fill up the new room they each have now.
4. I don't know what the hell I'm talking about and totally
just screwed up the young plants.

So what you experienced growers think is the likely out come based on your own handling of young plants?

Thanks.

longs the tap roots not damaged id say they have a good chance at surviving might be slow going for a week or so but it should catch up once its over the shock
