Self watering system.

I'm working on plans for a sort of self watering rig. I want it so I have some tubing over top of my soil pots with some spray nozzles. They will all (4 plants) run to a water pump which I can submerge in a rez of my solution.

Questions:Can I just buy any 50-100 dollar utility pump from a hardware store? I plan on using fish aquarium tubing and all he pumps I see seem to have garden hose size outputs. Can I get something to connect that to aquarium sized tubing? Also, what size of pump should I use? I'm looking to water 4x 5.2gal airpots.

Thanks in advance.

Why don't you just go to your local pet store, tell them you have a massive salt water fish tank and that you need a strong aquarium pump to move some water? Its all about the GPH or gallons per hour, and since I don't think you need to move like 20 or 30 gallons per hour, you should be able to find something to suit your needs.

Also, a word to the wise... don't use the clear aquarium tubing, I made that mistake. Essentially it allows light to get at your feed solution which will promote algae growth.

I tried the BluMat kit... only half of the cones actually worked, the rest ran dry... I was lucky enough that I set it up a week before I left for vacation, otherwise I would've came home to some dry ass plants... maybe mine were just bunk, i dunno?
