Seeking advice on grow room design

Hey everyone. I'm new to the rollitup forums. I used to be involved in the Yahooka growing community back when it was a quality forum and Sureshot was around. Anyways, I took an extended break from growing and have decided to get my green thumb back. Was checking out forums and thought rollitup was pretty legit with some growing talent amongst ye'.

I'm starting from scratch as far as supplies go as I have since sold all my old equipment. I've been brainstorming about how exactly I want to grow and have come up with my "grow room beta design". I am hoping you guys can give me feedback as to if everything looks kosher and offer advice on anything you think of.I'm much more visual and to get my thoughts together on how I'd like my room setup, I made the picture below:

So Everything combined totals $904, plus $100 for misc. ends up at just over $1k. Now, I have access to dirt cheap but quality clones so I don't plan on having a mother area yet so the whole tent is devoted to flowering. Once I see roots, I plan on transplanting to a 1 gallon grow bag and vegging for one week before I flip to 12/12. I will snip any side branches and make more along the lines of lollipop plants. Since the plants will be smaller I'm hoping to fit 50-60 in the tent giving me 2 plants per square foot. I'm going to be conservative and expect on having a 1/4 oz per plant which would leave me between 12.5-15 oz. I personally would be dissapointed with anything under a lb though. I want to be efficient in my growing and believe growing more smaller plants to be much more efficient than growing fewer larger ones. Now everything would be strain dependent but I'm planning on growing ak-48 clones that are slightly indica dominant so they are shorter and plumper than sativa's and should finish a bit sooner. I'll have access to super lemon haze, ak-48, and blue cheese so if anyone thinks a different strain might be better I'm open to thoughts. The blue cheese stays pretty tight and short but it's smell is just rank cheese that I think throws a few people off :)

Thats all I can think of atm. Thanks for reading and hopefully saying hello and sharing your thoughts!

that looks good, if it were me i would use 2x 600 lights to cover that space rather than the 1ooo, 8 foot is a long way for that light to reach, even with a light mover, everything else in your picture looks perfect, also with 2 x 600 lights you still only need that 1 inline(450cfm)

Lol - reminds me of Mario.

SLH is a really good strain. Not sure what nutes your going to use for $50, but that seems really low.

I'd take the $200 you are going to spend on the light mover and get another light. You can use walmart reusable shopping bags as grow pots for $.50 a piece - they are like 4 gallon, which might be an option depending on how big you want to go.

50 plants and you only going to shoot for 1lb?? i can grow a lb with a 4x4 space and 9 pants easy...... Sea of green is alot of work tending to all those little plants and then transplanting them.....If all you want is a lb why not just get 6 plants in 5 gallons smart pots and veg it for a month and you will have you lb with WAY less work .....

i pull a pound and a half with 1000 watt (600+400) in a 4x4 space with 6 plants. you could do 8 plants under the 1000 and pull well over a pound. much easier than 50 plants.

I agree with this here. You can drop the mover get 2 600w and you will get way better penatration.

Thanks everyone for the replies!

So, I allready have my 1k light on the way. That was the first thing I purchased as I found a pretty decent deal. I do like the idea of removing the light rail and adding a second light however I'm concerned about power usage and unwanted attention because of that. I'd have to get a second 1k light to keep an even canopy. If I did end up purchasing the second light, would my 400cfm fan and filter be enough for both lights without an air conditioner? Is 2k in a 2br unit too much? Would this throw up a red flag to the power company?

Perhaps this might be an alternative option:

So, lets assume I have 2 1000watt lights in a 4x8 room. I add a room divider right in the middle to have 2 seperate 4x4 rooms. The vents are still hooked up continuously to eachother and the rooms are light tight. In the first room I have 12/12 and as soon as the lights switch off, the second room turns on for it's 12/12 cycle. I'd never have over 1k of power being used and the heat would not be an issue since only one light would be on at a time. Depending on prices, maybe even just buying two 4x4 tents instead of the 4x8 and doing this. Any thoughts?

The reason I wanted a bunch of smaller plants is for effeciency. I understand its going to take a lot of work pruning but if I save 3 weeks of veg time every harvest and still end up with the same weight as I would have with larger plants, that just makes more sense in my head. It's been a while since I have grown so that's why I'm not shooting for the moon as far as estimated weight but I can only assume that if a bunch of people can get a lb in a 4x4 area, that I can do it too :)

And finally, yes I agree that $50 is pretty low for nutes. I think $70-$100 is more realistic. I have used GH products in the past and have been happy but again that was years ago.

As a side note about the Super Lemon Haze. I went down to Amsterdam for the 08 cannabis cup. Of course when we went to Green House Seeds and they gave us a sample of this, it was clear who our vote was going to. The taste, quality of buds and high were exceptional. The first thing I asked them was if they had seeds available and to my dissapointment they had nothing yet. So throughout the week I tested different strains and picked up seeds of Blue Cheese from Big Buhda and NYCD from Soma. The last day I was down there, I ended up going back to Green House for one last smoke of SLH and was telling the cashier about my dissapointment that I wouldn't get to bring SLH back home with me when she stepped aside and a new sign hung "SLH seeds now available". I nearly shi* myself and bought a pack hours before my flight home.:leaf:

hi m8, 2kw is no where near enough electric to be suspicious, is there no way you can exchange your light? only because if your going to run 2x1000 lights, you could of either put 3x600 in your 8x4 tent, which is 200 watts less and would produce more light and some nice heavy bud in that space, or put 2x600 in that tent and buy another 4x4 tent put the 3rd 600 light in and veg your 6-9 plants up to the size(24 inches) you want, then you would always be in flower, harvesting every 8 weeksish.

another way would be to get 3x 4by4 tents with a 600 in each, 1 for veg the other 2 for flower, then stagger the 2 flower tents buy 4 weeks so you harvest every month.

Having to seperate light cycles in the same tent sounds like a big pain in the butt to me........ Also yes you can do 3 600watts but dont get buyers remorse over the1000watters they are the shit and you really cant go wrong with 1000watters.....Heres My two 1000watters in a 4x8 tent with 6 plants filling the entitre grow space ..only topped once....

I think 2 1000w in that size would do you right. The only problem with the rectanglar shaped room is that you get wider light spread from the open sides of the hood rather than the sides where the ducts go in, so lining up your lights basically "sideways" to what seems logical is a pain for venting and setup. An issue I had to deal with in about a 10x5' veg room. Running them end to end the long way would probably work fine however, and be much easier to set up.
