I was a noob once, i have always grown in soil. Plus, if you ever get busted and the OB find a complex hydro set-up, you are pretty much nailed!

To me,
absolute Noob, it looks like a very large pot to start in.

a poster mentioned earlier the plant must reach down for moisture, a smaller container would be easier to wet fully then dry in a reasonable time. Seedlings go in Dixie Cups to start IMHO.

Nornally i do start in small cups but this time decided to start in larger pots to cut out a transplant but i didnt realise this would happen. Its been about a week anyway so im hoping im going to see new growth soon!
