Seedlings in AZ and ZERO humidity

Just started growing a few plants from seed, first time ever in AZ. It's so dry out here!

Are you guys who have grown from seed out here finding that you absolutely have to cover the seedlings with plastic to keep humidity in? Im talking seedlings that just sprouted up to about 1-2".

Indoor.

I popped 5 seeds in paper towels. They were a good 1/2 inch long. Put them in the seed starter soil. Watered. 2 days later. Dead.

Had them under a very mild CFL light 23 watt i believe. Daylight.

Tried it again but under a higher watt 6900k light. Same thing.

Im gonna try to soak the seeds overnight, then just let them sprout in the soil and see if that helps. Maybe the transplant is hurting the roots even though im very gentle with them. Who knows.

One thing I know for sure is im glad I started trying to grow from seed in Az with bagseed for this very reason =)

no. I've grown in two dry climates with no problems. Why don't you ask that guy you were talking about that has a botany degree and from humboldt?

IMG_1360.jpgIMG_1332.jpgIMG_1324.jpgIt's important to get off to a good start with seeds, downside is stunted and slow growing seedlings. My suggestion is to start with good quality seeds. I use the plastic party cups, 3 holes in bottom and three on sides up bout 1/2 inch from bottom, use a hot soldering iron to melt holes. Fill cups with a quality seed starting soil mix like Jiffy brand or ?.. Hydrate each cup by flooding with tap water until saturated and water runs freely out holes, set aside with plastic wrap lightly over tops. Soak seeds in distilled water atleast12hrs. overnight.. With a chop stick make a small hole bout 1/4 - 3/8 inch deep max, place seed with tweazers into hole and place small amount of wet mix on top. No need for plastic wrap on top, place in an 80ish degree area, no need for light until seedlings break surface. Use shop type flo's 24hrs... No need for any moisture for atleast a week. Use only well filtered water (water store kind) and water with about 100 ml. measured. This method works great and often get 100% results. This will get you up and running, don't over mother em.... good luck....

humidity isn't too bad right now but I always keep my seeds covered but uncover 1-2 days after they pop out of the soil and why would you wait til the root gets that long and then plant it those things are delicate as soon as the seed splits I put it in the dirt and have had 100% doing so. And about the low humidity figure out how to get it up there's lots of things you can do I have no problem keeping my humidity above 45% with with a humidifier I got from walmart for like 30 bucks and a couple bowls of water that I have paper towel half in half out tacked to the wall to wick water up and in the air.

I've never had issues with low humidity either. If anything it's beneficial as it cuts down on molds and fungus and certain pests. If humidity is a problem for you I would suggest being a good parent and buying the kids a $20 wally world humidifier.
