Seed scratching

I took some seeds back to the club that didnt germ and was informed of putting a piece of emerycloth (fingernail file) in a matchbox and putting your seeds in and shaking it back and forth gently then taking them out to germinate them. This scrapes off a little of the casing to let the seeds germ easier. Anyone heard of this ? I reluctantly took back half of my granddaddy purple seeds that didnt germ and was given some blue madness. Anyone have any input on these blue madness seeds ? They were recommended by one of the top dudes at the club.

Never heard of doing that with your seeds. I recently tried something to my seeds to help them germinate. It was day 10 of the germinating process and 5 of my seeds didn't germ so what I did was took some tweezers and grabbed a seed and gently squeezed to crack it a little bit then put it back into the germinating process and all 5 of the seeds that didn't germ at first finally did after helping them out a little bit.

I have heard of blue madness before, but I do not know much about it

i just throw erm in a tupperware container full of water. In 24-36 hrs they should open up and expose the root.
I did it with 50 recently and all but 3 germed

i use the paper towel method. but when they dont germ in the past i have go so far as to take a razor and run it along the edge where it cracks. then i put it back and it will sprout but usually it becomes a less than desireable plant

yeah occaisinally you get one that just wont push the seed far enough apart

It's done all the time with seeds that have the kind of hard casing that cannabis seeds have (nastursium, bluebonnet...I know there is more but can't think of them right now). It's called scarifiying - essentially, the emery board method half ass replicates what would happen to the seeds should they be out for a typical seed cycle in the great outdoors, specifically if the seed is worn down by the elements and earth OR ingested by a critter and then pooped out...all of those things affect the hard seed casing and by the time it goes through the seasons naturally, a seed trying to bust out can!

Everything I've germinated in either the paper towel/darkness way or in a peat pot came out fine...the seeds that didn't germinate even after scarifying them were bad on the inside upon further investigation (meaning I cracked 'em open to see what was up inside!).

I heard about this method.If the seed's shell is too thick dont receive enought water to the germ.

I looked and got nothing.. so it's gotta be some blueberry hybrid with something like haze or w.widow to give it more kick..you'll probably love it!

i bet the scratches alow the moisture to get to the inside of the seed case way eisier and thats how it helps to germ.
