Seed depth

Hi guys,

I decided not to germinate my seeds in tissue or water for the fact I didn't know about it before I started (Rookie).

Now I'm paranoid that I've planted my seeds too deep .

I'd say buried them about 50mm (2 inches) deep. By the time I googled it and found that I should have buried them 10mm deep. I'm now worrying that I will kill the seeds.

They've only been planted for a little over 2 days. Shall I try and fish them out and raise them or just wing it?

Thanks.

I agree with digging them up, but I'd germinate outside the soil so you can see the growth and won't have the urge to dig them up again if you don't have a sprout pop up in a day or two

The main downside to putting the seed too deep is that the soil is cooler deep down, and it takes ages for a seed to get through it.
Most seeds fall in the plant about twice as deep as the seed is wide group. Up to about an inch still works for weed. Just don't scratch around in the pot looking for it.
The taproot is super fragile at first. The best thing is for the seed to germinate in the bag or pot it will be in until transplant.

Cheers mate, I'll try be very careful while I look for it after work today. Will post an update :)

*UPDATE* I've dug them out and they're doing really well I think. The whole thing is about 100mm (4 inches) big and I've raised them to the top with about 15mm of soil over the top so it can do its own thing and rise naturally.

They are 3 cream of the crop / cash crop auto's under a 480w LED if anyone was wondering.

Thanks again for the advice guys (Y)

I would set up a 23W CFL or two up about an inch or so off the surface waiting for the seedlings to pop through. Use it for the first week, then switch over to the LED/COBs.
I am not having acceptable results from newly popped seedlings under anything but CFL combined with a small fan.

I agree. Just the right amount of light for a baby seedling and your only using 23w. Give your big light a break.

I use a couple cfl lights to veg until about 3 weeks then i switch lights. That's just me tho.

This is the light that I've got at the moment but with only the "GROW" light on, not the bloom along with a small fan. Should I still invest In a new light or carry on?

That Mars unit uses obsolete LEDs. It will work in a small cabinet though due to light being reflected back. I still would not pop seedlings under it.

From what i hear those aren't overly strong lights and especially if u only have the veg switch on.They would be fine i'm sure as long as u have the light high enough . Maybe start by keeping it 36 inches above the canopy. You can lower it as needed.

Thanks for your advice guys. My grow tent is only 600x600x1400mm (2x2x4ft 8")so I hope the light will be enough with the reflective walls. This is my first grow so learning a lot haha!

I never knew there was so much involved! I just thought it was stick your seed in and away you go haha!
