Second Try At THC Pills

My first attempt was by and large, a failure - anyone interested can see it here:
https://www.rollitup.org/cooking-cannabis/238901-my-attempt-thc-pills.html
So I waited to get a few more things together, before trying again. I currently have a little over 13 grams of ground up trim, pretty much all tiny buds and small sugar leaves, ground fine. But only making one bat5ch to start, so I don't waste my trim if it doesn't work. So! Here's the recipe I used:

2g good trim
2 tsp coconut oil
crockpot
steel condiment cup ($0.97 for a four pack at Wal-Mart)
"00" gelatin capsules
"00" cap.m.quik capsule filler

Put the trim and the oil in the cup, and placed the whole thing in the crockpot, on low for two hours, stirring every half hour. The oil barely covers this amount of trim. Pulled and let cool for 15 minutes. Put oil soaked bud evenly into capsules, refrigerated. That's it! Haven't tried them yet - gonna have to wait for this coming Saturday, have a few friends over to be guinea pigs with me. I'll report on the result then. Hoping it works this time!:leaf:

Well, four of us wound up trying them out today. We felt - not enough of anything to even comment on. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong! Maybe it didn't "cook" long enough to activate the THC? Maybe it wasn't enough? It should have been, although it was trim, it was mostly small buds, and small sugar leaves. Maybe I destroyed a lot of the goodness grinding it up? Why can't I make this work? Oh well. Maybe I'll toss the rest of my trim in the freezer, to await hash making. Maybe it has to be hash to work.

i haven't tried the capsules yet, see some great claims and some bad experiences
the one recipe i saw that sounded good was to put the oil on a pan/stove, heat to some temp, but when you stirred in the weed, you'd get a bit of a boil
sounded like that would be needed to decarboxylate the thca

Hmmmm... Well I made a shaker and got about a gram of hash off of the remaining 11 grams of trim I had. I'll try again with that - still trying to figure what went wrong, maybe it wasn't "cooked" long enough? Saw another recipe that calls for 8 hours instead of 2 in the crockpot? Or - maybe it got too hot and evaporated the good stuff? Does anyone know for sure at what temp the THC is destroyed?:wall:

don't have the precise temps, just been reading, kind of wary of investing valuable weed until sure of a good result
but i get the impression the trick is to hit the peak temp that converts the thca into thc, and it doesn't have to stay at that temp too long
from some experiences, i see claims this can be very efficient for weed effect and you get a nice, long buzz

Because my husband and I quit smoking cigarettes 18 months ago, and neither of us care to smoke anymore - for myself, I find it painful to the lungs.

Yep that too - and without the smoke, the smell, or paraphenilia. I appreciate you trying to help me figure this out. Now if I can just figure out what that "peak temp" is, maybe I can get it to work. :leaf:

if memory serves, 220 Fahrenheit is what's used for the oven method
a thin layer of herb placed on flat metal surface
keep at the temp for 5 minutes or so, this will convert the thca to thc
you could then put herb in the oil and simmer
there are more precise directions here somewhere, i have seen them

yeah, that's what i've seen too
the temp appears to be the trick, has to go to a certain point and be held not too long
from the folks that claim good results, i've noticed the oven method of decarboxylation seems to get the best feedback
weed should not smoke, but come close
i think persistence will work, but going through hard grown weed is the downside

That it is. I'm trying to stick with trim and trim product, I don't want to waste the good stuff. If I fail the next batch (with my keif) then I'll wait until I harvest to try again.

Why not try a tincture rather than pills? Or at least first. IMO pills would be the most diff, although I did see a recipe using hemp fiber and some form of concentrate, like a tincture or oil. I would not think putting the actual greens in a pill would work as there's simply no way to get enough THC into your bloodstream. I would think you need to do some type of extraction/concentration first. I just made hash and will be experimenting with using this and kief to make tinctures. I will also try the green dragon with some greens... If I have any success I will report back, and might then try pill making.

i just tried tincture myself, green dragon - very disappointed with the effect
used 1 gram of very strong northern light bud, covered broken up bud with just enough %40 vodka
i've made my share of hash oil over the years, not new to the process
so i gently boiled the mixture right down to almost dry, then re-added the original quantity of vodka
tried it several times sub lingually - do get an effect but not way near what i get from a vaporizer
i suspect the 'boil near dry' didn't cut it for decarboxylizing the thca - so i'm giving the oral route a rest before trying these capsules
