Alright just like the Title says

I am doing my second grow, My First Grow was going alright then i had really bad heat probelms. Started my first grow with out RIU since i have found this web site i have learned so much. I have been smoking my first grow for a while now does not taste the best but does the job, i just used bag seed for my first grow.

Now i am looking into my second grow and want to get some good info and find a nice strian to grow. I know its going to be hard to even find a clone after i figure out what strains i will be going with. Was looking into getting 6 plants so 2 sativa 2 hybrid and 2 indica. I would love to be able to try my hand at Blue Dream.

So yea throw some good strains at me i know there is thousands trying to narrow it down. Thanks for all the help !!!!

Nugs we need to know your grow set up and the effects you want. Give these a read, if you can narrow down your criteria a bit we'll be able to do you better than just tossing out random names.

Setup basics

- what are the height and floor dimensions?
- Can you get it completely** dark for 12 hours?
- Can you vent the heat from the light out of the grow room?
- What equipment do you have? Light wattage?

**to see if your flower room is completely dark sit in it with a vaporizer or joint for 15 - 30 minutes. Your eyes will adjust and what you thought was complete dark may be navigable by sight. You'll probably find light leaks to block.

.

Effects wanted

This excerpt of a DJ Short article gives a great breakdown of the areas of effect we want from bud.

DJ Short

The first spectrum to consider is the "up and down". "Up" refers to the stimulating aspects of cannabis, while "down" refers to sedative qualities. Up pot tends to liven the disposition and stimulate the emotions, inspiring sociability and talkativeness. Down pot tends to produce sedative and depressant effects. Some people refer to stimulating pot as being a "head" high and sedative pot as being a "body" high, yet although partially true this is also misleading.

Body and head highs are the next spectrum of the cannabis experience. Generally speaking, head highs are stimulating and body highs are sedative, but not all are. Some body highs are stimulating and some head highs are depressing. I once sampled a terribly paranoia-inducing head pot that inspired great couch lock qualities. I called it Boo-Goo.

Early to late harvest will affect the head to body spectrum expressed by a certain plant, with the later harvest tending to produce more body and sedative effects. However, I believe that certain aspects of this spectrum to be genetically inherited.

Next to consider are aspects of duration. Some cannabis tends to be short-acting (15-30min) whereas other varieties last much longer (6-7 hours). Once again production, harvesting and curing techniques can influence aspects of this spectrum, but much of this effect is inherited.

For me, the most important aspect of the cannabis experience to consider is tolerance. This refers to the product's ability to provide the same experience via the same amount over time – the burnout factor. By "over time" I mean the long run: months, years, decades...

Most of the cannabis I see on the market today has a terrible tolerance factor – a quick burnout time with the product's novelty lasting less than a week. Luther Burbank's model of breeding needs to be employed here and no expression of tolerance to your product is to be tolerated. An example of where intolerance to tolerance is tolerated – enough already!

Another aspect of tolerance is "ceiling." This refers to how high (or far) one is capable of going with the variety. How many hits can you consume until more hits are unnoticeable? Most indicas have a low ceiling of less than 10 hits. For me that's usually around 5 hits in one smoking session. If I smoke more than 5 hits of a strong indica I will either not notice the post-ceiling hits, or I will fall asleep.

Some sativas have a very high ceiling, or seem to have none at all! This means that the more you consume, the higher and further you go. Oaxaca Highland Gold, Black Magic African, and Highland Thai were some of the herbs I've tried with very high or no ceiling.

The final aspect of mental effects to consider when sampling strains for breeding is the tendency to produce anxiety. Certain strains of cannabis increase anxiety while others decrease it. This is also true for other emotions, which some strains may suppress while others may augment their intensity. Generally stimulating and head varieties are the ones that can produce unwanted anxiety, but this is not always the case. Quickly cured buds or an over-early harvest are contributing factors to anxiety-increasing pot, but this trait is also genetic in nature.

.

And here's how a strain would match up with DJ's criteria.

.

Bubblegum - Serious Seeds

Spectrum of Experience

1. Onset: fast effect or creeper.
creeper 1 2 3 4 5 fast

3 to 3.5 - I start to feel it fast, sometimes a lightness in the head while holding the inhale. Most of the effects start within a couple of minutes and build. It takes me 15 minutes to go through a Volcano bag.

2. Up (stimulating) and Down (sedative)

Up.

- Liven the disposition and stimulate the emotions:

Mood elevator. A lightness of being. Great for hiking the beach/woods with an I-inhale or just sitting alone.

Inspiring sociability and talkativeness:

I'm usually very solitary and Bubblegum makes people tolerable to be around and still leaves me sharp enough to make fun of them and deliver some cutting insults.

Sedative and depressant effects:

None that I notice, even on the come down which is mild.

3. Head High / Body Stone:
- Head high
Energizing -
yes
Motivating -
yes
Couch lock -
no

Bubblegum releases you to do the things you want, but doesn't drive you to do them with uncontrollable urges.

4. Emotional State Caused

Anxiety -
no
Euphoria -
yes, but controllable euphoria.
Calm -
yes
paranoia -
no

5. Body - medicinal effects

Nausea -
mild help
Pain -
not known
Seizures -
not known
Back -
not known

6. Head - medicinal effects
Depression -
very good helping depression while leaving functional
Mania -
have not had the pleasure of finding out. Yet.
Anxiety -
good
Antisocial -
makes people tolerable for short periods
Anger -
fucken right I get angry but the Bubblegum doesn't help me get angrier!

7. Ceiling:
How high (of far) one is capable of going with the variety. How many hits can be consumed until more hits are unnoticeable.

I'm noticing a ceiling but I'll check with my buddy next time he's up. If I can get him to keep hitting the Volcano.

8. Potency: weak 1 2 3 4 5 strong

More potent than Big Laughing, not as potent as Kali Mist. 3.5

9. Duration
short 1 2 3 4 5 long

Maybe an hour.

10. Tolerance:
ability to provide the same experience via the same amount over time – the burnout factor. "Over time" means the long run: months, years, decades...

Not known.

11. Taste

Bazoka Joe, sports card gum, that pink gum that comes like a Tootsie roll. The lightest hint of icing sugar, pink gum sweetness.

Two rooms

Veg Room:
2ft x 2ft x 7ft6inchs....i will be using 4ft8inchs for the plants, theres 1ft6inchs on top for ballest, ducing, and storage and 1ft2inchs under the plants for ducing, and storage.

The room is light proof completely light proof, i have spent allot of time in side the room with the lights on outside then put some lights inside and checked from the outside, still working on the room a little more to go then i can start on the flower room.

Since my first grow, i found this great site and learned allot so now i have a DIY 6inch cooltube all setup ready to work, just not sure if my fan is big enough for a 600 watt MH we will find out

I will be using a DIY 8 site 2 gallon aero bucket for my fresh cut clones
Rooted clones they will go into a DIY ebbaflow 4inch square pots with pellets
All under a 600 watt Big Bulb MH cooltube

Flower Room:
2ft x 2ft x 7ft6inchs

The room is light proof completely light proof, i have spent allot of time in side the room with the lights on outside then put some lights inside and checked from the outside

Lights will be DIY 4inch cooltubes, last grow i only had a 400wat hps no cooltube, so this time around i will be using my 250mh bulb that i had just sitting around, still have to my a DIY ballest for it and my 400wat hps

I have a Megagarden System from hydrofarm that i can fit my 6 plants in there with plently of room. the pots from the veg diy ebbaflow will go into the megagarden after three weeks or 8 inchs, (thats just a guess)
Light Total will be 650 wats (400HPS,250MH)

Ok so what kind of High do i want

I like both Body and Head highs, just needs to be a upper for the day then a downer for night, i like to be up more then down though. If i could get a 6 hour high dam i would be so happy, over the years shit i barley feel it after a hour if i am lucky! I have plenty of anxiety already so i dont need anymore so NO ANXIETY. I do love feeling my hits when i take them not 10 mins later so if i can get a fast effect that be super!!!

Well i hope thats enough info to help narrow down what i am looking for, any other questions feel free to ask, thanks agian for the help !!

Sorry Nugs, I read through your info when you first posted, figured I'd think on it a bit, then lost track of the thread.

Your flower room looks great, I was wondering about height restrictions. For lights you need: 4'sq x 50W HID = 200W. So your 250W will do fine, but will have less penetration into the canopy than the 400. You might think of one light instead of two, and side lighting - UVB floros.

What type of grow are you going to do? Straight up, scrog? Your 400W will penetrate 18" in a light canopy and 12" in a heavy canopy. Your 250W will penetrate 12" in a light canopy and 6" in a heavy canopy. Scrog and SOG type grows allow more light to all bud sites.

Here's a few pics of a type of screenless scrog I like to grow.

.

I'll chuck out 3 indica and 3 sativa dominant strains with descriptions, you tell us what you like and don't like about each strain and we'll narrow our focus on the next options.

.

Sativa

1. Blue Dream (I found what little I could on your pick, I've read about it before but know little about the strain.)

edit**** I figured out why I couldn't find seeds for this strain, look down to sex posibilities. Nugs if you find seeds only feminized can be the real deal since it's a clone only strain. Look for the S1's or check out crosses carefully. If you want to do the original strain and can't find S1s look for mail delivery clones online.

Lineage: DJ Blueberry X Unknown Haze
Family: 50%-50%
Origin: Santa Cruz Medical Clone
Region: Nor Cal
Genotype: Thin Leafs
Indoor Maturation: 60 to 72 days
Outdoor Maturation: Late October
Sex Possibilities: Clone only females
Stature: Single Kola stretcher
Yield: 2 pounds per 1000 watts
Odor Level: Average
Odor Description: Fruity Berries
Taste Level: 9
Taste Description: sweet spicy fruity, blue berries and grapes

Breeders Description

Blue Dream (Blueberry x Haze) was bred by patients for medical effects using the body high of and indica and the cerebral effects from the sativa. It’s highly effective for pain without the sedative effects of a pure indica. Patients needing effective pain relief during the day will find the effects are long lasting and will find it has a pleasant taste.

Yield

You can go straight from clone on this strain and easily pull 600 grams from a 1000 watt. Expect plants with no veg to reach a height of 3 feet in 3 gallon buckets (soil). Vegging plants for 2 weeks will pull around 900 grams per light if the plants are properly trained and a bigger 5 gallon pot is used. You can expect higher yield in hydro, and outdoors you can pull 7 pounds from one well cared for plant. She grows vigorously and is easy to grow. Perfect commercial yield and connoisseur taste. Buds look ready at 60 days. Allowing them to go 70 days will improve the quality though. Buds turn light blue late in flowering if the tempature dips.

Structure

Plants show extremely thin leaves and tend to look almost 100% sativa. A 300% stretch the first weeks of bloom tends to favor one large Kola. LST training is recommended. Buds tend to foxtail later in flower.

Buds

For a video review check here:

http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?f...ideoID=59653635

Very tastey, creamy with berry and fruit tastes. Somewhat spicy as well. Great taste. Often listed as Indica in cali coops. I’ve found it to be a ripping sativa with some body high. Some of the best buds come from Santa Cruz and the organic variety from Santa Cruz Patient Collective.

2. AK47 - Serious Seeds

The quick hitter, if you want to feel your hits when you take them this is the strain. Stinks like a dead skunk who died of odor gland infection and left in the sun in a thick black plastic bag. Odor control is needed.

This easy to grow plant is one of the most popular. It is of medium height and produces good yields quite quickly. Extremely STRONG odor and smoke. The name was given not out of any idea of violence, but more in association with the one hit wonder that the smoke is. Quality without compromise makes AK suitable for commercial grows or home use. These plants have a short flowering period for a sativa, producing compact, not too leafy buds that gleam with a coat of resin crystals.

http://www.cannabis-seeds-bank.co.uk/serious-seeds/serious-seeds-ak-47/prod_524.html

.

I'd put Jack The Ripper by Subcool as the 3rd sativa but it may produce anxiety. Very potent.

.

3. Jack's Cleaner 2 - Subcool (The Green Avengers)

I truly feel it’s the most dominant strain I have ever worked with. Lemon and resin are always passed on in spade, these are very stable displaying only a couple of phenotype, no matter which phenotype you get its heavily lemon, mango fruit and will produce large thick plants with an exceptional high. Developed: TGA (Spain)

  • 60% Sative / 40% Indica
  • 65-70 days bloom
  • SOG Suitable
  • Heavy Odour
  • Lemon and ground coffee aroma
  • Very High Resin Profile
  • Stocky Vigorous Plants
  • indoor/outdoor
  • appetite stimulant
  • Exceptionally medicinal and very moreish, please do not over indulge

2. White Russian - Serious Seeds

The plants yield very powerful buds, coated with resin. Very strong, long lasting High, more cerebral than a knockout. Medicinal plant.

These seeds can produce plants that are fantastic in both appearance, and effect. One of the most typically indica strains, White Russian is a stable cross of AK-47 and White Widow (a prize winning indica clone). Medium height, consistent plants and dense, very resinous flower tops (crystals appear after about 5 weeks of flowering). With such a strong indica background, the plants smell quite strong during both their growth and flowering period.
