Sealed room questions: (bare bulbs or air cooled reflectors)

Ok so i have decided that a sealed environment with co2 would be best.

I have a few magnum xxxl's already

i will use a mini split a/c to cool the area.

Oscillating fans

Carbon scrubber on its own with fan (free standing)

Dehumidifier

So, now i need to decide if i should use bare bulbs or air cooled - one of my worry's is expelling the heat and the bare bulbs route would mean only the heat from the outisde part of the a/c unit woould give off a signature

Wheras if i air cool the lights too i need to exhaust that heat too.

Anyone got any experince of doing this that can chip in - much appreciated :)

Peace

Not sure if this is help or not.

I run CFL's for vegging and HPS for flowering. If you have a high enough space to get a good exhaust going it takes a ton of the heat away without it getting too hot at plant level. I run a 9"exhaust. It's very powerful and noisy. I built a box on the outside of the house to disguise the exhaust and keep light from getting out. I live on over an acre of mountain land so the noise isn't a problem. It would be a problem if I lived in regular houses close to each other. I run the lights from 7 to 7 and it's quiet during each day.

Heat is a killer, but good ventilation can do wonders without a/c if it's not hot as hell where you live.

I like open bulbs, so you have a completely sealed room.nothing goes in or out but you and your girls.
I have run test and the glass doesn't really lose much P.A.R and you can get an air cooled closer, But as long as your a/c can handle the heat, open is the way to go. no ducts in the way,no inline fans.
Just make sure to install a temperature released fire extinguisher, just in case. You can take the glass out of your xxx's and run it like that.

If you absolutely want to go sealed room you have to use air-cooled hoods in order to keep temps good, without air-cooled hoods you would need tons more a/c. It's a must for sealed room. We had a sealed in the beginning when we couldn't get in fresh outside air like we can now, and when we used our current Xtrasun Wing bare bulb hoods we had 90-92 degree temps, with air-cooled hoods, we had hydrofarm radiant 6" hoods, high day temps went down to 79.

I agree with bare bulbs, more lumens, coverage and depth. But in our sealed room we could not get the temps we needed so we had to switch to air-cooled rather then blast more a/c into the room. Now we have a powerful fresh air intake which is amazing so we are back to the bare bulb hood in a non-sealed roomand temps are easy to control.

I run 3 open 1000's and have a 24,000btu a/c and I can run whatever temp I want. If you live in a place that has extremely cold winter temps, you might have to set it up different.

i have 2-3k in parabolic reflectors in a very sealed room and my 12k minisplit handles it no problem. in fact it also provides air to my veg room. bare bulbs alone are not as good unless doing a vertical grow, you will want a reflector, or tons of light is wasted to the sides.

2 tons of ac is a lot. Big bill. I have a friend a state over who has a Kilmaire split 2 ton ac with 4-1000s, cost him about 2 grand and another ???? a month in electricity. He definitely has no temp issues as well.

This is why we got away from sealed rooms. If you need it you need it I guess. In the north here it's a whole different game with being able to utilize cooler outdoor temps.

that is a huge bill, Mine is under $500 and I turn my temps to 68 when lights are off. Even If I added a 4 th bulb, my bill would still be around -650.

Just curious if you ever got your sealed project up and running??
I am switching over now and would love to hear more about your experience.

Hi guys - i am still about, just deciding on the plan of action for my next round.... One thought that concerns me though is my location - i would need to mount the outside part of the mini split INSIDE the building (ie bedroom) and then box it off from the interior of the bedroom with wood panels etc and have it blowing out the window. Due to where i live it would look out of place having a mini split on my outside wall blowing heat. Is this do-able?.... Let me know what you think? Cheers
