ScrOG setup questions.

Hey everyone I was thinking about doing a soil ScrOG for my next grow and I had a couple of questions I was wanting answered. I am currently using the 20 x 36 x 64 - Silver Lined Grow tent from htgsupply. I read you're supposed to use 1 plant per square foot. Well with the dimensions of my tent wouldn't that be 5-6 sq. ft? If so would I still use that many plants because that seems like there wouldn't be enough room on the screen as I previously tried growing 6 in soil regularly and they filled the tent completely. Also was wondering what would be some good strains to use for a ScrOG? I was thinking one of each strain but don't know which strains or how many to plant with my space issue. Also using a 400 watt HID.

I would stick to 1 or 2 strains, as they all have different sensitivity and grow differently. You could fit 6 in there under a screen, don't veg too long and you wont over fill the screen. Try flowering when they reach screen ht. and fill the screen during stretch
I like to fill my screen in veg then use bushmaster when I switch to flower and it pretty much stops the stretch.

Sounds like you're going from seed. Because of the amount of veg time most strains grown from seed need in order to properly transition into flower(about 5 weeks), you won't be able to fit one per foot. Scroggers do that for short veg cycles going from clones that can flower whenever you want.

Pick a strain that says it's bushy or "needs room to grow". I would veg out 5 or 6 plants to a 1' tall and pick the best 2 or 3, top um at 8"-9" and put the screen at 1'. Veg until the majority of the plant is at screen level and start flowering. That's just a general guesstimate though based on a plant that doubles in size during flower.

Trddiekgn nailed it. 2-3 weeks veg max then flip. I have a current scrog grow jornal if you want to see what they do when the stretch. I have a 21 sq ft scrog with 7 healthy and one runt and it's filled to the brim. 4 weeks veg.

So I should grow 2-3 Plants of 1-2 strains?

If ya do more than one strain just try to pick ones that grow similarly. Since you're growing from seed it will be that much more important, if you do more than one strain, to start out with extra plants so you have a better chance of getting phenos from each strain that grow similarly.

Pop 8 or so seeds. You'll probably get 4-5 then grow them. Sex clones and keep the best growing two.


If there female seeds just pop 5 and keep the best 2. Make sure to clone them before the 2nd week of flower.

I'm thinking of growing out a couple Barneys Farm Vanilla Kush and LSD and pick 1 of the best of each and scrog them. Will this work evenly and is it ok if I don't use clones?

Sure, they both grow pretty similar according to the specs. One important thing that's hard to tell is how much each strain will stretch during flower which is one of the questions that determines how long you veg. Those two strains should be pretty close though. I was actually going to start with red dragon and lsd but I fried the seeds with a heating mat..opps. So I grew out the vanilla kush and got some clones from a friend. So my grow is part clone part seed. As long as the plant is 4-5 weeks old going into flower you can use seed with no ill effects.
