Scrog advice needed. 1 plant vs 4 plants in 4x4 space

Just as the title says I'm quite interested to know which would be better between growing 1 plant in a 20-30 gallon pot or 4 plants in 7 gallon pots?

I just finished my first SCROG recently and was completely satisfied with the results, however 6 plants in a 4x4 space kind of seemed like it was a bit too much. I was originally thinking of going the 4 plant route with 7 gallon containers but then as I was reading through my Ed Rosenthal grow book again I read something very interesting. Rosenthal stated that growing a large plant in one pot is superior to growing tons of small plants in tiny pots simply because you'll have a large root mass with just the one pot.

So I was pretty much just wondering if anyone had any experience with this at all? Would you recommend going with the one large plant or the 4 smaller plants? I had to veg for 6 weeks to get the 6 plants to fill my 4x4 screen, I'm hoping to reduce that time a bit with the four 7 gallon pots since they'd all have a slightly larger root mass and would therefor have a bit more vigor in the growth than the six 5 gallon plants right? In your experiences, how long do you think it would take to fill a 4x4 screen with 4 7 gallon pot plants? And how about with just 1 plant in a 20-30 gallon pot? I'm guessing the larger pot would require at least 2 months of veg time wouldn't it?

If anyone could go with the pros and cons of 1 plant vs 4 plant I would be very grateful. Thanks guys!

I personally like running more plants per grow. At least two, if not the full four.

Primary reasoning is that if you get past veg and well into flower and something goes wrong, you typically won't lose all the plants. With one plant, an entire crop can be lost :)
