I found a website that offers DIY genetic engineering courses. One of their latest courses was a 'how-to' change a plant's color.

The following seminar has already passed but what are your thoughts on tweaking a marijuana plant's color? Of course there is leg-work to do. People seem to strive for purples. It seems to me once the skill is mastered any color is possible.

"Join us in creating your very own genetically modified plant that you can take home and enjoy indefinitely!

Using agrobacterium, this workshop will teach you to engineer the leaves of the Nicotiana tabacum plant turning them red.

Each participant gets to take home their own plant. You may also bring your own plant to experiment with!"

Yeah il pass monsantos and others already on it and the risk of genetic pollution alone is enough to keep me away from gmo weed its not worth it imo

Using a natural occurring bacteria to change a tobacco plants leaves from green to red is technically a gmo product but far from dangerous or scary, I mean come on guys this vector point happens naturally in nature....... GMO technology has the potential to save the world one day, Its not all bad but I know the news will tell you it is lol, That being said I wouldnt have any gmo cannabis strains growing in my garden

I know i did biomed and agrobacterium tume faciens is one of the most popular vectors true i just dont trust it all it takes is for those genes to get into wild plants and you have fucked it imo gmo research should be in sealed lab conditions only

Their already there, agrobacterium is naturally occuring, and I agree for more dangerous vectors but Those who have real dangerous things wouldnt let them get into the general publics hands to play around with... it could totally be a super scary thing to think about :(

@Budget Buds buds Yes the vector in this case is naturally occuring however they cause gall tumours in plants in nature and work for there own purposes in the case of gmo they are carrying other artificially inserted genes thats the issue who knows if those genes are gonna stay in one population or spread i just rather not chance it as the old saying goes aint broke dont fix it

I saw an ncis when I was in college and i remember that there was a "murder" . if i remember right the victim was found in a field of gmo corn , something in the corn found something naturally occurring and made a poison , the person rubbed up against the wrong plant and it killed him lol, Really scary but very doubtful .... the thing that keeps me warm and fuzzy about it is that 99.999% of all people dont even have the education or training to be able to do anything dangerous and the other .0001 % arent that well funded lol

Well i feel bad for countries like say america in this regard you guys get gmo stuff all the time like corn for example and they dont need to label it as such i dont think the risks as much to us directly at least yet as it to the things we need like plants animals etc its not like we got a good track record is it when we fuck things up we do it good and proper we mess with stuff we think we understand just to find out we dont know that much hence why im kinda anti gmo even tho i know how its done and what potential benefits there are to be had for me they never outweigh the risk so best left for research purposes only under strict controls each to there own but this issue is bigger than any individual it effects everyone theres no going back either

Yeah I hear you, all it would take is to get something into flowers that would kill off the bees, and in a few years all humans would follow...... they've already declined by 60% so maybe its already happening?? Its scary af at that end of the spectrum but I dont think simple experiments like what was posted will have any effects other than maybe getting a few smart kids interested in science :)

More likely id say things like unstoppable weeds not cannabis like the annoying kind due to genetic pollution but yes who knows we dont till we do it and then its done so yeah id rather not with bees theres alot of factors a parasite being one but theres more to it than that of course tbh one other thing that scares me other than this is the sheer amount of plastic pollution we have now it is extremely scary it is now to the point mothers are breathing it in and its passing through the placenta to the foetus thats messed up and a good example of when we think we knew better and didnt
