Scared Shitless

So today I went out to visit my plants (5) to give em some water and check on how they were doing. Now my plants are in 5 plastic cups that I've dug holes in the ground for so they wouldn't fall over. I also have placed the bottoms of 2L bottles over them with holes poked out so they don't get over-watered when it rains, and it's been raining quite a bit here.

So as I come upon my babies I quickly realize something is wrong. One of the cups was moved about half a foot out of it's hole, with the 2L bottle off, and was on its side with the dirt at an angle and and the plant somewhat pushed inside, under the dirt.

So I'm thinking it's A) someone that walks through there (and I'd have no reason why) and saw them, and kicked it over as a warning or B) an animal. But I don't understand why if it was an animal that it would just move one of them and not the others. Gah I don't know what to do.

I'm thinking about moving them now immediately but it's just so disconcerting. It's either I move them now or wait till Saturday and see if they're still there.

Help mee.

you said it was raining; did you see any foot prints in the mud? human or animal?
That's a good idea but I really didn't think to check. I think I'll check I'm just worried about going back so soon. I think I'm going to do it on Wednesday when I can get there early when people would be at work.

I might just do it now...

I'd move 'em regardless. Human = trouble, animal = quick snack if they're on an animal path.
Good luck...
I'm moving them in two days...just got another location picked out.

I also went back to the spot and realized it was pointless to look for tracks because leaves cover the entire ground and nothing looked out of the ordinary.

For catfish: I know what I did was a big red arrow but there is nothing else I can really do in my situation. They are too small and with the rain being like it is they would get pummeled. I can only wait until they get bigger over time and would be able to withstand natural rain watering.

If you have some tips as to how to counter my rain problem, I'm all ears, but until they are big to withstand nature, it seems like my only option to protect them.

Thanks for your input everyone. :)

Animals are attracted to freshly dug dirt. Obiviously it wasn't deer or rabbits or they would be eaten. Get them out of the cups & in the dirt. Why are you going out to water them if it has been raining? Once they're in the dirt & it rains, the dirt gets packed down & the animals won't dig them up anymore. Plants love the rain & will grow like crazy. They are only weeds.

Like I said I'm just scared that the rain will crush them as they are only a few inches tall. Add that to the fact that its slated to rain 3 days in a row and I damn sure don't want them to get over-watered and die. I would put them in the ground if I was certain they wouldn't get crushed/over-watered. I guess I'm just being over-protective.

I suppose that what you're saying is based off experience, so I just may do that when the chance arises and the weather clears up.

hey man i had something very similar happen to me, just a little more serious
i had just planted 10 germed seeds and i came back to 6 of them being knocked over. i didnt know if it was a person or an animal or the wind, but it definitely seemed like animal because the "thing" did not take them all. it seems to me it was just an animal. in fact, when i went back the time after i found them i saw a stray cat run away real quick.
so chances are youre ok
