RV carbon filter instead of RO system

I was looking into getting a RO system to take out the chlorine or chloramine (I dont know which my town uses) out of my tap water instead of using distilled water.

I then got to thinking, why won't a RV/Marine car on filter work? It is much cheaper. I am not seeing much chatter online of people using one for this purpose. Am I missing something?

Single stage filtration should remove most of it but it really depends upon how laden your tap water is. I have read that if your TDS reads 100ppm (or less) a single stage membrane should filter most of the chloramine and fluoride.
Only thing is that there's no waste water generated so then where does all the shit go? Stored in the filter? Guess that means the filter must be replaced regularly.
