The success of the Syrian Kurds, with the support of Turkish and Iraqi Kurds has enhanced the Kurd’s international profile and their self confidence. The Kurdish groups are being seen as the most effective ground troops in the battle against ISIS as Turkey sits almost idle with its well-equipped army on the border. Turkey has even been accused of aiding ISIS by allowing them to move freely in border areas and allowing new recruits to join them.

“The image in the West of the Kurds as a reliable ally on the ground is terrifying for Turkey,” says Waziri. “So before it’s too late, Turkey waged its war — not against ISIS, but against the PKK.”

Turkey has been keen to paint ISIS and the PKK with one terrorism brush. “How can you say that this terrorist organization is better because it’s fighting ISIS?” said Turkish Foreign Minister, Mevlut Cavusogl at a press conference in Lisbon on Monday. “They are the same. Terrorists are evil. They all must be eradicated. This is what we want.”

But some see the war against ISIS simply as a cover for an attack on Kurdish groups. Of the more than 1,000 people Turkey has arrested in security sweeps in recent days, 80% are Kurdish, associated either with the PKK or the non-violent Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), says İbrahim Ayhan, a member of parliament for the HDP. “The victory of the Kurds against ISIS was seen by Turkey has some sort of challenge,” says Ayhan. “This is all seen as a threat by Turkey.”

They shot down a Russian plane fighting ISIS. I said Turkey supports and defends ISIS, you added the US part. I said Obama supports Turkey with this kill, not ISIS. Stop telling me what I said, you didn`t read it til I did..........
Just rest assured knowing that Russia is blowing up Turkish convoys heading to aid IS and Chinese warships are on their way.

Whatever happened to the half billion spent on that rag tag team of "rebels" Obama placed his bet on?

So the pilot who was accused of crossing Turkeys border said he didn't and you say OK.
Ignore the recordings or the flight pattern.
Stuck on Stupid you are

>Mr Erdogan spoke of Turkey's "rage" at the decision to shoot down the F-4 Phantom on 22 June and described Syria as a "clear and present threat".
>"A short-term border violation can never be a pretext for an attack," he said. The Turkish jet was on a training flight, testing Turkey's radars in the eastern Mediterranean, he said.

They shot down a Russian aircraft that had no business in that area. Maybe Russia should decide who side they are on. Ours or Assads

Obama didn't, the Pentagon did. The CIA's plan that has been going arming moderate rebels with TOW missiles has actually stopped Assad's offensive and also blew up a Russian helicopter. Some of the shots the FSA makes with these TOWs are nothing short of amazing.

I think Russia has learned a valuable lesson about violating airspace

No business? You mean bombing IS is no business, or that Turkey's made up buffer border had no business being there?

That for every jet downed to relentlessly destroy each and every unchecked Turkish convoy entering Syria?

Or was the lesson to have the latest AA in the area? Because AA has been moved in and we're all just waiting patiently for Turkey to give Syria a reason to test those out.

You and I both know that Assad supports secular Muslims and minorities while anyone left to fill his shoes would just throw the country into Muslim extremism.
No, Assad does not. Let's be real for a second here: Assad favors Alawites and not secular Muslims. Alawites are the only minorities he favors. Otherwise Article 3 of the 1973 Syrian constitution makes Islamic jurisprudence the main source of legislation, and The Personal Status Law is pretty much codified Sharia law (although this only applies to Muslims in Syria).

I think Putin was expecting this and is getting ready to respond. I wouldn't want to be a Turkish Airforce Pilot right now.

No, The pilot says he wasn`t warned, ........Turkey says he was and you somehow have facts. I didn`t say OK to anything, in fact I stressed Turkey shooting down a plane fighting ISIS as suspect.

Why would Turkey do that even if the plane went in Turkish airspace for an hour just kill`n time ? Turkey has condemned ISIS as the bad guys too.

Because if you look at the area where the SU-24 was shot down, Daesh isn't really near there. It was in Turkish airspace however, and I'm more inclined to believe Turkey warned the Russian aircraft because Turkey has continuously told Russia to not violate its airspace over the past few months, and Russia has continuously ignored Turkey. Moreover, the Russian plane got shot down, do you really think the pilot or the Russian government would just go, "Yeah, they warned us but we ignored them thinking they weren't going to do a thing." Russia got its comeuppance, especially after downing Malaysian Airlines Flight 17.

Should Russia support anyone else in Syria than it`s recognized leader ? Who do you go to in Syria to get Air clearance ?
Not every country actually views Assad as the legitimate leader of Syria. There's an argument to be made that he is not since there's an open rebellion against his regime. Aren't politics fun? Lol.
