Maybe there is a sweet irony to what you say :D In the past territories and property was not sorted out through legal means, first one there able to keep it as theirs kept it as theirs. If it's been contested for so long, maybe russia have finally thought fuck it we'll use the money and oil ships and such and just fucking go for it. I assume (most likely incorrectly :p) that a government owned oil company would not face the international legal kafuffel that someone such as shell or BP might. Russia will just then ignore any legal request and whatnot and the only option would be military intervention to take it back. Not something vey likely to happen between Russia and the US i think, lathough again, what on earth do i know, i'm just spouting bollocks as far as i'm concerned  and hell, it's not like this world doen't revolve around an act first and study the legalities afterwards, just look at the wars we've started, we'll decide whether it was legal or not after the event, that certaily seems to be how the US and UK currently run shop.

My guess would be that Russia happen to have military capabilities that Iran and Syria do not, submarines just as a starting point. I've yet to hear though, why is it your oil? Why not the eskimos? :D Hell, looks like Canada has more right to it than America would no?

Practically, Russia is probably the only country in a position with the ability to actually exploit the (possible) reserves to be found there. Furthermore, they have to figure out how to counteract the constantly shifting ice. This grabs' effect wont be evident or quantifiable for decades to come...or possibly even ever. A non-event, IMO.

I would say it is our oil because of manifest destiny or just because God put it their for us.

I think Africa is the plan, at least I think we've been running depopulation programs with hopes of being able to move into Africa, but I think the Chineese will take advantage of the situation and will end up moving into Africa instead of us.

China cannot possibly mobilize the way the US can...no other country in the world can for that matter. China might always have a "commercial interest" in African countries, but they are LONG way off bumping the US out of anywhere...shit they cant even get us out of their own swimming pool. And they have far too many problems at home to even begin thinking about a new era of African colonization, they would get their asses handed to them real quick, by Africans (if the 4 or so US Aircraft carriers between the Eastern Pacific and the Indian Ocean don't "politely" ask them to turn around beforehand.

Africa is a depopulation program: No matter what their leaders do, the continent as a whole continues to suffer out of primeval self-interest of those in positions of power failing to bring their countries out of centuries of infighting, and into cooperation, stability, and prosperity. Until African leaders eschew corruption, or until their consituents hold them accountable, they will as a continent more or less, continue to suffer not because of what you perceive as "depopulation programs" but out of ineptitude.
