I wasn't sure at first it was Russets, Tell I noticed a lil brown/ rust marts on some my new growth.. I saw the leafs starting to taco at first. but its been in the 100+ range here, I thought it was cause of the heat. was around 105 when I first started seeing the taco'ing leafs. so jus assumed that was the issue. then i saw the lil red/ rust marks starting form on the new growth.. so I busted out the scope. an sure an shit, there is these lil clear/milky bugers all over so hit the web an im 98% sure there russets.. So what should I use to get rid of em? Ive read to use DE (Diatomaceous Earth), but dunno bout covering my plants full of white stuff, also read about using Doctor Doom an Mighty Wash, but ive read that they do an don't work.. also read about this stuff called Worry Free, guess its sold at wal-mart the article i read dude swore it wiped em out for him.. But would like to hear from this great community what has worked for you all of you with these Russet bastards before i start jus hiting them with products.. Thanks in advanced !

I've battles them inside so not sure how much would help. I used a whole arsenal of stuff so I'm not sure exactly which one did the job, but part of the process is actually switching up what you use each time, or every so often.

Here are some things I used:

Worry free spray (as you mentioned)
Safer's brand 3-1
Big Time Exterminator (pricey)
DE
Nuke em
P-bomb
Pest strips

Lol I used a lot in addition to a couple heat treatments and seemed to do the trick (knock on wood).

But do I coat my girls with the DE? An leave em white or spray it off after so long? Never used DE on my plants before only on my soil.

image.jpg I would suggest this Bon neem, spray your plants with it then spray again after three days covering all the undersides of your leaves then spray once a week for three weeks, then I do not spray again unless needed. This stuff will kill mites on contact and their eggs and it's reasonably inexpensive. No mixing up a bunch of your own ingredients just shake and spray that's it,
One added note, I always use this late in the evening never indirect sunshine.

  • Because of their near invisibility, it’s difficult to apply insecticidal soaps to suspected mite infestations. Home-made sprays using garlic, hot peppers, or citrus oils will not usually take down mites but may provide some deterrent. (Because they often arrive in the wind, russet-hemp mites aren’t easily deterred.)
  • Neem oil will repel and kill mites. It should be applied at first signs of damage.
  • Pyrethrum sprays have proven effective in killing mites but require complete coverage to ensure that none of the microscopic pests are overlooked. Tailor applications to the lifecycle of the mite. Spraying once a week — once every five days in warm conditions — for three to four weeks should cover adults, emerging nymphs, and eggs.
  • No matter which method you’re using, close inspection of plants during treatment is crucial. Use a lens of 14X magnification or larger to see mites gathered at the center of curled leaves, at stem junctures, or in flowers. Don’t wait to see how effective one treatment is before continuing or using another. Once infestations spread up plants, it’s almost impossible to save the plant.
  • Don’t hesitate to discard entire plants, even if they’re not entirely affected. While you’re treating affected plants, the mites are hurriedly spreading to others.
  • Prevent spreading mites. Discard infested plants in plastic bags and dispose of them in sealed garbage containers.

They laugh at neem. It's like happy hour. better use mycotrol
TWS, this looks like a go to for many critters but i noticed shelf life is only one year? You ever had any luck finding in smaller qty's than a pint?

split it with a buddy ? a pint isn't a whole heck of a lot ? I would use the less expensive Non organic - organic versions myself but I just spray avid once or twice in vegg and don't deal with squat the rest of the season. Neem oil don't even keep reds or two spots off shit where I live. Neem. LOL a smelly waste of money.

Big Time Exterminator and Nuke Em are ones that I would recommend after seeing a few friends battle the russets two years in a row. Their garden looks beautiful now. MyCotrol is good stuff also. I would alternate between these products and spray regularly. The russet mite goes from hatched egg to laying her own eggs in no time so you have to spray every other day or every third day to really get a grip on them. Just make sure to never spray the big time or NukeEm mixed with any other sprays. They will burn if mixed with oils like neem, azamax and pyrethrin.

Mites are a bitch up here.. fucking dairy farmers let mites suck their corn dry before chopping for silage.

Has anyone tries mite predators like Neoseiulus californicus? I have done a lot of reading but still wondering if they're working.

So far I think I'm winning the war... first day I hit em with a doctor doom fogger.. then two days later hit em with another doctor doom fogger. . Then two days later sprayed with HOT water an a product that contains spinosad can't rember what is called off top. Also added worry free that, contains pyrethrin. Then twodays later another docktor doom fogger. Doctor doom foggers also contain pyrethrin jus a higher %. . An continue to spray with the spinosad n pyrethrin mix..

But when I look with my 60-100x scope I can still see some of them but none of em move at all. Well i found 1 moveing slowly after the 2nd round of spraying n after about a 50-100 leaf checks . But when I first "found em" they were active lil buggers under the the 100x.. some are even turning different colors like there corps are rotting :D. So far I think the war is on my side.. but not gunna quit yet.. gunna hit em with another docktor doom n keep spraying. An prolly get some DE an cover my girls with it before budding season starts..

But yea so far so good. Here's a pic of em.. all bout 5-6ft tall n bout same round.. Greenhouse is 10 ft x 20 ft an bout 9ft tall if I rember right..

but any suggestions on what to use in the war let me know,im jus ballin on a budget over here right now lol .. I jus read n from u guys said that pyrethrin an spinosad kill em. So I went n got what I could find in my city.. was gunna order big time, an nuke em, if my results were bad. But so far so good.. wish me luck!
